“I look forward to the competition, being the best version of myself first.” Russell Wilson said this explaining his competitive nature. And this is exactly the scenario he is at the Pittsburgh Steelers where he is competing with Justin Fields for the QB1 role. However, his competitive nature sometimes comes between him and his wife, Ciara Wilson, whenever they playfully compete with each other on some things.
Explaining his point, about 5 days ago, Wilson joined the Not Just Football podcast with Cam Heyward. So, when he was asked, “How competitive are you two?” Wilson replied by saying, “We’re both equally competitive.” However, the quarterback made sure to confess his over-competitive drive sometimes, “I’m probably more of an-hole about it. It’s a little bit you know like I gotta a little bit of that in me.”
Well, he didn’t mention any specific incidents where he was more competitive. However, being an NFL star is enough to demonstrate his level of competitiveness in whatever tasks he takes on. Besides this, Wilson also revealed the things in which his wife, Ciara Wilson, beats him. The 35-year-old said, “Well, any dance move. That’s for sure. I don’t know if she beats me all the time but we love playing other people. We’re really good at pickleball.”

Back in 2022, when the Wilson couple joined Jimmy Kimmel’s show, they talked about how they got competitive on the pickleball court with their late night games. During the show, Ciara confirmed that they both are “competitive by nature,” and they “try to use that to push each other.” Intervening in between, QB Wilson chimed in saying, “Pickleball is an issue…We argue over it, we have late night sessions sometimes.” To which Ciara nodded with a ‘yes!’ Not only that, Wilson informed that the problem is that Ciara “starts dancing whenever she beats him,” and that triggers Wilson’s competitive drive.
However, they both acknowledged that all these are just fun and they love each other’s company since their first meeting, which was on March 26, 2015. But did you know, Wilson wasn’t recognized by the fans when he was CiCi’s boyfriend?
Russell Wilson was surprised at being called a bodyguard!
During the same podcast, Russell Wilson revealed that once he was called a bodyguard by a Ciara Wilson’s fan. This incident happened back in 2015 at Disneyland, just a month after they started dating. By that time, Wilson, who was in the Seahawks, had won a Super Bowl, while CiCi was a star singer. But that wasn’t enough for the fans to remember Wilson in front of Ciara’s stardom. Hence, when they were walking at an amusement park, Wilson went unnoticed in front of his then-girlfriend.

While recalling the incident, the quarterback said, “It’s a lot of people [at Disneyland]…and everybody’s like ‘oh my God, Ciara, Ciara, Ciara, Ciara’ and she didn’t embarrass me at all but….all of a sudden, this girl was like “Damn, her bodyguard is really hot” and and I’m like bodyguard? We didn’t have a bodyguard at that time.”
This incident, despite making the QB fumed, made Wilson laugh hard on it. And it clearly revealed how pure his soul is, who loved and respected her wife even when he was not that popular like Ciara.
