Consider Russell Wilson is a closed chapter for the Pittsburgh Steelers now. Even before their wild-card loss against the Ravens, things were not good between Wilson and the Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. But the five straight losses with Wilson under the center sealed his exit from the Steelers. “I’ll keep this short and very much to the point: Russell Wilson’s not wanted by the Steelers,” Kovacevic, a Steelers insider said. “Like, at all.” Meanwhile, Wilson, who is yet to comment on his future, finally broke his silence.

Per Aditi Kinkhabwala of CBS Sports, after his fallout with Smith, Wilson’s camp is trying to put a narrative that he is still wanted as a starter in the NFL. But the Steelers insider noted that there is literally no space for Wilson in the NFL market. “In talking to coaches and general managers around the league, there’s just not a market for his services right now,” Kinkhabwala said of Wilson.

What a fall, indeed!

Wilson, who led the Steelers to a promising start at the beginning of the season by 10-3, is not a part of Tomlin’s plan anymore. After keeping quiet after the wild-card loss, Wilson reflected on one of the “best times” he had with the Steelers this season.

After the wild-card game against the Ravens, Wilson was chosen as a replacement for Josh Allen in the Pro Bowl. This was his 10th Pro Bowl appearance and his family was there to witness it. Ciara posted a few images and videos on X showcasing their time at the game. To this, Wilson responded, “The best times. Grateful. God is amazing.”

Well, it clearly seems like Wilson will be moving on from the Steelers after 1 year. All the reports point towards the same and DK Pittsburgh Sports’ Dejan Kovacevic in his report directly mentioned it. He wrote, “I’ll keep this short and very much to the point: Russell Wilson’s not wanted by the Steelers.” This though, won’t surprise anyone. And the question now is who will Tomlin turn to? Will it be Fields or will they bring in someone else? Well, it doesn’t seem like Tomlin will be happy with just Fields.

There is something wrong between Tomlin and Fields and while we can’t yet put a figure on what it exactly is. It’s quite evident, right? I mean, even with everything that was going on with Wilson during the season, Fields was never called upon. There is bound to be some reason behind it, right? Well, even Kovacevic didn’t have an answer for this one: “I don’t have that answer. Maybe it was that he wouldn’t have felt right thrusting Fields back out there for a playoff after two months of rust, but again, I don’t know.”

Well, it seems like even though Tomlin assured of stability in the team, there will be some major changes that will happen within the Steelers this postseason.

Who can the Steelers look towards?

With Russell Wilson definitely gone and no clarity on Tomlin and Fields’ dynamic, the question is: where do the Steelers go from here? For one, they can certainly look toward the Jets and Aaron Rodgers. Many believe that Rodgers and the Jets will part ways soon, and Pittsburgh could be a great landing spot for the veteran quarterback. The only issue? If the Jets entertain trade calls and Rodgers decides to leave, will he continue playing or call it a day? At 41, no one would fault him for hanging up his cleats, but if the legend chooses to stick around, then why not with the Steelers?

For the Steelers, the other choice would be to go to the draft and target a youngster. The one name that comes to mind is Quinn Ewers. The Longhorns QB has shown promise and would particularly sit well with Smith’s offense. With Ewers, the Steelers can also aim to get Crimson Tide QB Jalen Milroe, but given the Steelers’ draft order, that one might just be a bit more difficult.

Well, whatever way they decide to go, the black and gold need to take a call soon. The team has been performing decently well in the recent past. But if they want to reach the Super Bowl and aim for that Lombardi, they need to nail the QB decision.
