Is Russell Wilson back? The 35-year-old might bring a “spark” in his 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Well, at least the Wednesday morning reports are saying that.
About three weeks ago, Wilson mentioned that despite being 35YO, he feels like 25, indicating his form and desire to bring back the Super Bowl era with the Seahawks. So, does that mean, the Steelers’ new QB is set to score big this season? The new updates on his current form suggest the golden era of Wilson is back, at least in one case!
Good news for Steelers’ fans!

Russell Wilson reunited with his former teammate, Seattle’s wide receiver DK Metcalf, during a 6 a.m. training session at UCLA’s practice facility. John Ursua, the receiver of the Canadian football team, BC Lions, shared a video clip on his Instagram story, showing Metcalf catching passes from the Steelers QB, Wilson. In the video, the 35-year-old quarterback could be seen throwing a perfect deep ball to Metcalf, a skill he displayed often during his rookie season. This indicated that Wilson is refining his signature deep pass, as he reconnected with Metcalf Wednesday morning. Ursua captioned the story with, “Straight dot !!!! Nobody throws the deep ball like 3 (Wilson’s jersey number).” Additionally, Wilson too reshared this practice video.
Wilson and Metcalf previously played together for three seasons with the Seahawks before Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos. After two challenging seasons there, Mr. Unlimited joined Steel City, where he is competing with Justin Fields for the starting quarterback position. While it remains uncertain whether Wilson will secure the QB1 role, his recent mastery of the deep ball could influence the decision, potentially leading the Steelers to name him their starting quarterback for 2024.
Moreover, if Wilson continues to excel at throwing deep passes and executing play action effectively while adhering to coach Arthur Smith’s game plan, and if he returns to his previous top form seen in Seattle, the Steelers could emerge as serious contenders for the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, his connection with Metcalf is causing concern to the Seahawks’ fans, as they speculate a reunion once again.
Will DK Metcalf and Russell Wilson appear together?
The Seahawks don’t currently have concerns about DK Metcalf leaving for the Steelers with Russell Wilson, but there’s a reason to be cautious. Metcalf has only one year left on his contract after this season, and earlier there were talks about the Seahawks possibly trading him this offseason. But as per reports, they could trade him the next year and save over $22 million in salary cap space.

This way, the Steelers could benefit from another receiver, especially with Wilson’s connection to Metcalf sparking interest. If this happens, it could bring back Seattle’s glory days, but this time with the Steelers.
When Wilson and Metcalf played together from 2019 to 2021, “they connected for 195 catches, 2,919 yards and 29 touchdowns.” Wilson’s deep passing skills combined with Metcalf’s ability made them a strong duo while they played together.
