Robert Saleh had a comprehensive background in coaching defense before he took the head coaching job with the New York Jets. Now, as he takes on another year of the HC role, it is Aaron Rodgers who is helping him imbibe the offensive teachings into his head coaching arsenal. Rodgers, last week in an interview, hinted that if the Jets don’t win this year then, he, along with other Jets coaches would be out of their jobs.

Saleh took the message to heart and is trying to improve his coaching and incorporate offense into it. “First time I had been part of an offense where the quarterback had such a voice,” said the HC. This is Saleh’s second year working with Nathaniel Hackett and Rodgers and he’s trying to change his approach to coaching, being focused on the offense that was in shambles for the New York team last year.

Saleh then added, “A lot of it was me observing and along with everyone else, learning this system. It’s year two, it’s just a natural evolution. Got to really grasp the offense, and so just trying to provide some insight from a defensive perspective, you know just understand what they are trying to accomplish and just trying to provide some insight.”

Former Eagles director of Pro Personnel and NFL analyst Louis Reddick mentioned how Robert Saleh is on the right track to redemption and reacted to his presser. Per Reddick, Saleh’s insights will help Aaron Rodgers get a better idea of what’s on the other side of the ball. “I think Coach Saleh understands what they’re up against this year. I think he understands the importance and the urgency that this organization is going to have put on it in terms of winning, in terms of the bottom line,” said Reddick.

Reddick further elaborated, “To me, a lot of times when people look down upon defensive head coaches in the NFL. I kind of scoff at that because they can give a really good perspective in terms of you know how that offense is going to work against the defenses, what it’s going to go against because that’s what their specialty is.”

Last season, the Jets seldom showed potential as a winning team. By some miracle, the Jets finished their season with a 7-10 record, though the scenes of their offense were in utter distraught. Robert Saleh is 18-33 in his career as the head coach of the New York Jets and Woody Johnson’s patience might be running thin now. The Jets have a disappointing past as they never managed to get beyond the 7-10 record. The 2015 season was the last time when the Jets had a winning season with a 10-6 record, beating the Bills and the Dolphins to that position. But whatever Saleh is doing now seems to sit well with Aaron Rodgers, as the New York team appears to be on the path of redemption.

Robert Saleh gets a green light from Aaron Rodgers!

The comments by Aaron Rodgers shocked everyone when he said, “If I don’t do what I know I’m capable of doing, we’re all probably going to be out of here. I like that kind of pressure, though.” Saleh is taking a different approach and is trying to change his ways which has gotten Aaron Rodgers’ attention for the better.

It seems like whatever Saleh is doing has Aaron Rodgers’ stamp of approval as a couple of days ago, the Jets QB appreciated Saleh’s efforts. “As a defensive coach, he’s been in that room a lot, but he’s been kind of sitting over to the left of me a good amount of the offseason so far,” said Rodgers and further added, “So we appreciate his influence. He’s brought some really good ideas to the table.”

This year, the scenario in the Jets’ camp all comes down to Robert Saleh’s coaching skills, Nathaniel Hackett’s offense, and Aaron Rodgers’ gun-slinging arm, with the responsibility and experience they bear on their shoulders. Things might be well if the QB stays healthy and the Jets might finally get to soar in the skies after decades. Can they turn a historically not-so-storied franchise around in this year of high hopes? Let us know your thoughts below!
