When quarterback Deshaun Watson walks on the field in the Browns vs Cowboys game, he’ll do so with a heavy heart. Things will not be easy for him after losing his father right before the big game. The player was looking forward to the season’s first game and hoping to win on September 8, 2024. But after this tragic news whole NFL community is shaken.
Former WR Antonio Brown mourned Deshaun Watson’s father’s tragic demise posting “RIP King” on his X. The news first came out when Watson posted a photo of a solid black background with the caption “Rest in peace pops,” informing his father, Don Richardson, has passed away. After that, there were many speculations about his plans for the game.

There are a few chances his father’s demise might have changed his plans for the regular season. And it is doubtful whether Watson will be playing in the Browns’ week 1 game against Dallas. Although there is no official statement unlit now, the reports are suggesting that he will have to fly to Huntington Bank Field on Monday.
Unfortunately, that’s not always how life works. And Watson might have only two days to grieve before the game. He already missed the preseason finale against the Seahawks, because of an arm soreness. Now, after being involved in the practice, it is not clear whether he will make it on time.

Watson was born on September 14, 1995, in Gainesville, Georgia, to Deann Watson and Don Richardson. Watson had spent most of his life away from his father, who left his mother alone to raise him as well as three siblings. In 2017, Watson told the Houston Chronicle that he can remember meeting his father “maybe five” times while growing up. But nothing can affect a child’s love for his father, and he might need some time to overcome this. And no one knows if he’ll be available on September 8th.
