As the regular season comes close to a finish, the debate about who the MVP might be is heating up. However, this year’s MVP debate is quite different since the top two candidates are from the same team, the San Francisco 49ers. And now five-time MVP winner Tom Brady has declared his pick.

Running back Christian McCaffrey and QB Brock Purdy of the 49ers are on top of everyone’s mind right now. Considered the GOAT by many, Brady thrived at the QB position, but in a shock move, he is going against his own QB with his pick.

The last time a non-QB won the MVP award was in 2012. Adrian Peterson, the RB for the Minnesota Vikings, clinched the honors. This year another RB in McCaffrey is in the running for the prestigious award. Though many have claimed that MVPs shouldn’t automatically be the QBs, nobody expected the greatest QB of all time to side with this opinion.

“They’ve (49ers) been really dynamic on offense. He’s (McCaffrey) definitely, in my mind, the MVP favorite”, said the former QB for the Patriots and the Buccaneers on his podcast ‘Let’s Go’. The 49ers have been extremely potent when attacking and both Purdy and McAffrey have contributed to that.

But the voting for the MVP will not be in the hands of retired Tom Brady, but a select panel of 50 journalists and sports writers from all over the country. And McCaffrey has an appeal for them.

McCaffrey goes against the GOAT’s wishes

McCaffrey must’ve been humbled by Tom Brady’s choice for the MVP, but he wants the voting sportswriters to disagree with TB 10. “Vote for Brock, man”, McCaffrey appealed. He also gave his reasons as to why Purdy should be chosen over him.

“That guy deserves it, man. I know, obviously, you respect that. He’s been unbelievable for this team”, the RB said. Only time will tell, however, who clinches the coveted MVP accolade for this season, but it looks likely that the player will be from the 49ers.
