Randi Mahomes is such a busybody! One would think she’d be basking in the sunlight, enjoying her life over margaritas. However, the Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes ‘ mother has no sign of stopping and takes up a new hobby every chance she gets.
Last we heard, the 51-year-old was retiring from her event planning job in Texas after a staggering 20 years. She’s also an avid businesswoman, capitalizing on the ‘QB Producer’ tags fans lovingly gave her, selling handmade merchandise. Did you know she is also a former high school basketball player? Though, this time another heartwarming cause has occupied Randi’s mind.
She’s joined hand with Variety KC, a non-profit, committed to helping children with cognitive and/or physical disabilities to organize a pickleball tournament. Slated for September 14 at the Kansas City Convention Center, the matches will feature the Chiefs‘ spouses and mothers. On September 8, Mahomes’ mother reshared a story of Chiefs’ running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s wife, Tenia Jojo’s story reminding her followers about the event yet again. But did you know it was actually Patrick Mahomes’ benevolence that inspired the charity’s Executive Director to reach out to Randi?

Years ago, Deborah spotted the QB talking to a young special needs child. She explained in a blog post on the organization’s website how Mahomes had knelt at the child’s level and was treating them with “respect, kindness, and interest”. “It was a glimpse of his character off the field, and it was equally as impressive as his on field feats. That type of empathy is a learned trait and it told me everything I needed to know about his mother, Randi,” the executive wrote.
Deborah then reached out to Patrick’s mother, thanking her for raising such a wonderful child, starting a long collaboration. Since her time at Variety KC, Randi has regularly participated in fundraisers. Once she also raised close to $10,000—which also included a donation from The 15 and The Mahomies Foundation—after requesting for just $250 dollars from her Facebook community.
The organization officials stated, “We are so excited about this for so many reasons!” As for raising her own children, Randi Mahomes has a different mantra altogether.

“The work of parenting is never done,” said Randi Mahomes once. And those who’ve heard her journey will definitely agree. When the Chiefs QB was just ten years old, he quit football just because his coach wouldn’t allow him to be a QB. From there to winning the 2023 Super Bowl Championship has been a long road.
As a single mother, Randi was raising two boys, working two jobs to support her family after divorcing Pat Mahomes, a former MLB pitcher in 2006. Contrary to the perfection that marrying a pro-athlete meant a cushioned life, the mother of two faced significant financial struggles after the split. Despite that, the young mother made sure her children were pursuing their dreams.
“I’ve always told Patrick to do everything because you’re only a kid once. I wanted him to live life to the fullest,” she said before reminiscing about her eldest son’s issues with football. “In the summer of his sophomore year in high school, he came to me and said he wanted to quit football. I told him he would be bored and to stick it out, and he did. Then in his junior year, it really blossomed for him. He fell in love with football because of the fans.”

But at the same time, she also admitted that every parent, she’s made mistakes along the way. Her biggest regret? Not spending time with her children because she couldn’t miss work. “I wanted to give my kids the opportunities or the things that I wished I would have been able to do. But then I was so focused on providing those things that I couldn’t make all of their games.”
Even though everything has worked out for the better, Randi Mahomes is a mother before she is anything else.
