Jason Kelce is now turning into a mentor! It’s bad enough to get injured while playing during the season. But it’s even worse getting injured during the offseason. As the offseason rolls on, Kelce is taking it upon himself to lay down guidelines for present and future NFL players on what points to take care of during the offseason.

So, what are these guidelines? And does that mean that players cannot enjoy their time off from the grueling NFL season on their own time? They definitely can, and Jason offers suggestions as well.

Jason Kelce, upon retiring, shared candid insights about the off-season risks NFL players face. He warned against activities that could result in injuries, which might jeopardize not just non-guaranteed earnings but also guaranteed ones. Engaging in restricted activities could result in the loss of bonuses, as stated in contracts.

“You can do whatever you want, just don’t get injured. So just try and stay as safe as possible,” he cautioned. But that doesn’t mean the players cannot have fun and live their lives during the offseason. But they must ensure that fences and guardrails are built into their contracts. He continued, “There are some players that enjoy doing dangerous activities where they will sometimes have things written into the contracts ahead of time.” For instance, known motorcycle enthusiasts may have specific clauses that void guarantees if injured while riding.

But obviously, it’s always better to err on the side of caution. But these two players met with unfortunate incidents. Luckily for them, they weren’t too severe.

In a startling domestic mishap, Chris Hanson of the Jaguars faced a terrifying ordeal. A fondue pot accident at his home led to severe burns for him, his wife, and teammate Jaret Holmes. The mishap, which unfolded rapidly, when the pot tipped over during a move, resulted in hospital care for his wife at Shands Hospital’s burn unit due to extensive second- and third-degree burns. Despite the severity, Hanson and Holmes made swift recoveries, returning for training camp that summer.

Five years later, LaRon Landry, a fresh recruit for the Redskins, had to skip a minicamp due to an unexpected injury from a paintball game, an incident Coach Joe Gibbs described as “bizarre” and “freak.” The team’s defensive backs had chosen paintball for a team-building exercise, but the activity took an unforeseen turn, sidelining Landry with a paintball injury to the groin.
