The Denver Broncos are facing a QB crisis right now. Sean Payton decided to bench Russell Wilson in the game against the Houston Texans and the Broncos still faced a close defeat. Since then, Wilson and the team in general have been surrounded by a lot of questions. This may be the QB’s last season with the Denver Broncos.

Dianna Russini, the NFL insider tweeted more information about the pressing issue against Russell Wilson. The QB is under a lot of stress right now and so are the Denver Broncos. But at such a crucial time, is it advisable to bench one of the most prolific QBs in the league? Dianna Russini’s tweet gives us more insight into the conundrum.

The 6-6 Broncos might soon be ruled out of the playoffs race. In the wake of this, Russini tweeted out that Russell Wilson is expecting to be released by the Denver Broncos permanently. Per the NFL insider, the thought has been bothering Russell Wilson for nearly two months and he is expecting to be ousted from the Broncos in March. However, for a lot of people, this is an ill-advised decision.

 

This has caused a lot of turbulence in the Broncos and some unsavory details have come to light about both entities. Per Russini, Wilson was never informed when he would be benched this season and for how long. Russell Wilson was playing as a starter until he was not! Wilson’s contract with the Broncos runs through 2028 and it seems like the Denver team is cutting corners when it comes to taking care of their own.

To be level-headed about the whole situation, Russini also disclosed some financial roadblocks that the Broncos are facing to honor their contract with the QB.

Is this a scheme to oust Russell Wilson?

It is to be noted that the Broncos signal-caller has about $37 million in injury guarantees for 2025. The contract will be active from the 5 league day in March 2024. This is a huge amount of monetary exchange that cannot be ignored by either party. So, lawyers were involved in negotiating the details of this contract, however, the contract remains unchanged.

To add to the burden the Broncos reached out to Wilson’s management in late October and told them that Wilson would lose his starting job if he didn’t postpone the injury guarantee date for 2025. The whole situation just raises more questions about the franchise.
