The home stadium of the Kansas City Chiefs is set to undergo a million-dollar renovation! CEO Clark Hunt had previously announced his plans to improve the GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, provided things went according to plan. The stadium was first opened in 1972 and potentially could use a refreshed look for the upcoming season. Finally, on Friday, the Chiefs and the baseball team, the Kansas City Royals released a joint statement outlining their plans for the benefit of Jackson County.
The Royals and Chiefs have collaborated with the city of Jackson for 50 years, working well for all sides. However, there were speculations that the teams might leave the city. Despite these rumors, the teams have now expressed their interest in remaining loyal to the place, but they have added specific demands regarding their renovation plans that will eventually aid in Jackson City’s economic benefits. According to the agreement, if Jackson City voters agree to extend the 3/8 percent sales tax this April, both teams will provide $200 million to benefit the county’s economic development. As per the agreement, the government is subject to paying stadium insurance. The Chiefs will renovate the iconic Arrowhead stadium, and the Royals will use that to build their new stadium.
The teams also give them the freedom to relocate their shares based on property tax and give them the power to use $140 million for other county purposes. It is aimed at community benefits, much like the partnership between the NFL and MLB teams. This initiative is a result of the benefits that both teams have received during their 50 years of togetherness. However, the Jackson legislature leader has something different to say.
Jackson County legislature’s view on the agreement!
Jackson County Legislatureman Manny Abarca reportedly introduced a second tax bill much before the release of the agreement. During the meeting, Abarca created a 3/16 sales tax for around twenty-five years. But that didn’t mention anything about the Royals. They appeared to be willing to fund the Chiefs only.

Moreover, due to ongoing chaos between the teams and legislature, Abarca seemed to be worried, as he mentioned that if they weren’t able to secure the Kansas City Chiefs, whom their voters have supported for long years, then they would be regarded as “terrible elected officials.”

However, when the agreement was announced, Abarca, on her X account, seemed happy with the deal and the teams’ commitment to the county’s sports teams. What are your thoughts on this new agreement between the Royals and Chiefs? Will it get approved or not? Share your insights below!
