“Never in my career have I seen someone with months, not weeks, injury be as involved in a team.” Mike McDaniel praised Jalen Ramsey’s commitment to the games and workouts in 2023. Right after that brutal injury in camp, Ramsey didn’t hide. He stood up, faced his teammates, and gave it to them straight. He tore his meniscus while covering Tyreek Hill – no contact, just a freak moment. The news shook everyone. The hype around the Miami Dolphins‘ defense was real, and suddenly, one of its biggest pieces was gone.
But $72 million star Ramsey wasn’t there for a pity party. He lifted the room, called out Xavien Howard as one of the league’s best, and told them to step up – because when he came back, he didn’t want to be the missing piece, just an extra one. His words hit hard. And guess what? Coach Mike McDaniel even said the whole team was down until Ramsey lit that fire. And when the reports said he’d be out till December, Ramsey aimed higher. He was back by Week 8. Not at full throttle yet, but already showing Miami exactly why they brought him in. But things have changed now, as reports suggest some tensions between the CB and the head coach.
According to FinsXtra on X, “Jalen Ramsey and Mike McDaniel do not see eye to eye, and their relationship is said to be irreparable.” Ramsey’s time in Miami is over, and it’s not about the money – it never was. The Dolphins gave him a fresh deal in 2024, but the problem runs deeper. As per reports, it’s personal. He and head coach Mike McDaniel just can’t see eye to eye. No trust, and no real respect between them. And for a guy like Ramsey, that’s everything.

Ramsey still respects GM Chris Grier and a few others in the building, but when that bond with the head coach breaks for good, there’s no patching it up. That door’s shut, as he has already made it clear: he’s not coming back. The Dolphins know it, too, and they’re trying to help him land somewhere he actually wants to be. So, what went wrong between them?
According to some reports, Mike McDaniel has already rubbed some vets the wrong way, especially on defense. That’s why guys have been hesitant to stay or re-sign. Now, the team is likely to trade Ramsey!
Mike McDaniel and the Phins are trading Jalen Ramsey?
When Dolphins GM Chris Grier stepped up for that pre-draft presser, he didn’t sugarcoat it – he confirmed what everyone was buzzing about. Yes! Jalen Ramsey is getting traded. But here’s where it gets tricky.

If they move him before June 1st, Miami eats over $25 million in dead cap and barely saves a chunk. But if they hold off till after, they save more and take a smaller hit. Still, waiting means trouble. Teams lose interest, and the return is a likely fifth-round pick, not even until 2026. The Ravens, Titans, and Raiders could also acquire him in a trade.
His trade won’t impact this season. So yeah, it’s messy. They’re stuck between doing what’s smart on paper and what actually helps on the field now. Either way, one thing’s for sure – Ramsey’s not walking back into that locker room. That chapter’s closed!
