It’s a heartbreaking day for the Las Vegas Raiders and the University of Houston today. A former University of Texas alumni and former Las Vegas Raiders cornerback, DJ Hayden has suffered at the hands of fate at a very young age. He died at the age of 33 on Saturday. The facts and figures of his early departure have shaken things up for not only him but about 5–6 more people.

The news has shocked his fans and the whole NFL community as they pay their homage to one of the former Raiders. Sadly, Hayden wasn’t the only one who suffered an untimely departure. This tragedy took place on a Houston freeway and got the police involved instantly.

DJ Hayden: An untimely goodbye

The former Oakland Raiders CB DJ Hayden passed away at the age of 33 in an automobile accident on Saturday morning, according to the Houston Police report. The Houston Police Department got a call at 2 a.m. regarding a traffic accident. There were 6 people who were killed in the incident, and two of them were Hayden’s University of Houston teammates Zach McMillan and Ralph Oragwu, who were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Another teammate, CB Jeffrey Lewis, survived the tragedy and is recovering from the incident.

There were two vehicles involved in the crash: one was a Chrysler 300, and the other was an Acura SUV. The Chrysler jumped the red light at a very high speed and is considered at fault in the crash. It is reported that four people died on the scene, and four more were referred to the nearest hospital.

Out of the 4 who were on the way to the hospital, two died at the hospital. There was a homeless person and a woman who were involved in the mishap as well.

The police are investigating what exactly went down and are trying to find out who was driving the SUV. The University of Houston came out in a tweet and paid homage to the deceased, which gave a brief look into their professional careers.

A look into the life of DJ Hayden

Hayden started his career with the Houston Cougars in 2011 and played two seasons with the team. He amassed a total of 119 tackles in his Houston career, of which 83 were solo tackles. Things changed quickly for him after he went on to play for the Las Vegas Raiders (Oakland Raiders then).

In his Raiders career that lasted 8 seasons, he amassed 328 total tackles, out of which he had 282 solo tackles and 46 assists, coming out with 4.5 sacks in his career. He also played a season with the Detroit Lions and played the last 3 seasons of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
