Home/NFL

When you are replacing Bill Belichick, you need to bring in someone with a similar level of experience. The guy’s been in the coaching business for a long time now. Bill grew up in a football family. (His dad Steve Belichick, was an NFL player and coach). He helped the Patriots lift the Super Bowl trophy six times. However, back in January, the Patriots parted ways with him after 23 years. And brought in former Patriots LB Jerod Mayo as their new head coach. The team had high hopes for Mayo, but as soon as the season started, it went down the drain (faster than anyone would have thought). And now, the new talk of the town is that Mayo might be at risk of losing his job, to former Patriots LB  – Mike Vrabel.

This season has been wild when it comes to firing people. Many teams have been firing coaches/ players left, right, and center. And the latest name being linked to this trend? Jerod Mayo!! This leads us to the big question: who will be the new mentor? With Bill Belichick already signing a deal with UNC, he’s out of the picture. Rumor has it that the role could go to Brown’s coaching and personnel consultant Mike Vrabel. A familiar face, Vrabel played nine seasons with the Patriots. And amid the rumors, NBC Sports Boston journalist Tom E. Curran added some fuel to the fire, revealing that Mike Vrabel, despite the Patriots’ current struggles, said, “I’ll go back there.”

It looks like Mike is eyeing a return to his old stomping grounds. After playing with the Patriots, he wants to coach them next. But you all know they aren’t the only team hunting for a head coach. This year, the Jets are also out there looking for a new HC for the next season. After being turned away from Bill’s door (as he decided to coach the college football), they’ve got their eyes on Vrabel. And the Bears after firing their head coach Matt Eberflus, have also been exploring other options for the next season. A few reports suggest that they are also thinking of approaching the Browns coaching consultant.

So, Mike’s very much in demand, he is getting a handful of offers. And sadly, Patriots HC is almost on the verge of losing his job.

Jerod Mayo’s debut season with the Patriots has been a disappointing one. The team finished off the last season at the third spot and this year they are at the bottom of the AFC East. And down from there, the picture does not look so pleasant, especially for the HC Mayo. After this horrible season, it wouldn’t be shocking to anyone if the Patriots decided to fire him. It was the team that once ruled over the NFL, they are the six-time Super Bowl champions. And look at them now, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick must be crying in the corner somewhere. It looks like everything went downhill for the Patriots after Tom Brady left.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Mike Vrabel be the savior the Patriots desperately need to reclaim their former glory?

Have an interesting take?

Brady’s former team knows how it feels to be victorious, and they for sure want to return to their old self. So, of course, they will have to work for it and make some choices. Last year too, they only had four wins in their winning column. And this season their HC, Mayo has been terrible with both his coaching choices and his words. Jerod Mayo’s coaching journey with the Patriots did not start on a very pleasant note. Patriots owner Robert Kraft still gets a lot of heat for how he parted ways with Belichick. And then the disastrous season only added to the bitterness.

So now, NFL fans are curious to know about the Patriots’ next move. Will they stick with Mayo for another season or bid him goodbye after just one year? And what about Mike Vrabel? If given an option, which team will he pick? Or will he just stay with the Browns?
