Veteran Nelson Agholor is staying in the Ravens (for a year at least)! Baltimore Ravens have made sure that their wide receiver would not enter free agency before the 2024 season. Despite their failure to reach the Super Bowl after being defeated by the Chiefs in the AFC championship, Agholor proved himself with his consistent performance. As a result, the Ravens have made the move.

The first-round draft pick, Agholor, had an impressive 2023 season and has now extended his contract with the Ravens for a year. This is the team’s first big decision of the offseason and opens up speculations about other key players, including Zeitler and Stone.

One key aspect for the impending decision was the Monday 4 pm deadline. If the Ravens had not extended Agholor’s contract, the WR would have automatically become a free agent, open to be picked up by other teams when the trade commences. Moreover, the team would have suffered a loss of $1.7 million in salary cap if the contract had expired.

This move is welcomed by fans and analysts alike, keeping in mind Agholor’s rock-solid performance and penchant for taking the reins when needed. This will be the WR’s 10th season in the NFL after being drafted by the Eagles in 2015. Since then, he has spent time with the Raiders and the Patriots before joining Baltimore in 2023.

His stats speak for themself, having scored four touchdowns and received 35 passes for 381 yards in his tenure at Baltimore. This extension had opened up questions about other Ravens players, especially guard Zeitler and safety Stone, who are nearing the end of their contracts.

Baltimore has some tough decisions to make after their comparatively obvious move of retaining Agholor. Next up in the line is safety Geno Stone. With his impressive play last season, leading in the AFC with seven interceptions, Stone is going to be an expensive keep. Per speculations the Ravens cannot afford him, and he will be heading toward the free market.

Another player reaching the end of his contract is the offensive lineman Kevin Zeitler. The guard had his personal best season in the last year but landed at the 19th spot in CBS‘ top 25 free agents list for 2024. As his three-year contract with the Ravens comes to an end, Zeitler, at 33 years old, is in his best form. Yet, because of financial constraints, the sought-after guard’s future with the Ravens remains uncertain.
