The season started with a dream for Mark Andrews. The tight end scored 11 touchdowns in the regular season, becoming the Ravens franchise leader with the most TDs by a tight end (51), with the most in a season by a TE (11). But it ended with a loss he would like to forget. The 6′ 5″ 250-pound athlete made two critical mistakes that ultimately cost them the game. But in the moments of sadness, he committed a mistake the league doesn’t like.
Every reporter was getting ready to dig into the TE’s mind, but he just vanished. After the game, he didn’t talk to anyone on the sideline, didn’t attend the post-game conference, and wasn’t in the locker room. Since he had cost them the game, everyone noticed it, including the NFL. Talking to the media is an essential part of every player’s work, so the Ravens need to be ready to face the league’s wrath. Next week’s list of fines will have the next update.

“I’m here so I won’t get fined,” answered Seahawks former RB Marshawn Lynch while talking to the reporters before Super Bowl XLIX against the Patriots. It was so repetitive that fans wondered about his fines. He revealed in February 2023 that he was fined around $1.2 million for not talking to the media. So Mark Andrews will also face some punishment from the league. Certainly not to Lynch’s degree.
However, the TE’s reaction to seeing the ball drop from his hands said everything at the 8:43 mark as Justice Hill put his body over the ball. He even found it hard to inspire himself with a slouched body posture. But the ultimate blow was that failed 2-point conversion drop. It was a great time. Lamar Jackson had scored the touchdown. They needed just 2 points. The QB ran to his right and threw the ball. Mark Andrews was already in a backward motion. There could have been no better timing. But the 29-year-old dropped the ball.
That was enough for the fans. They started a punishment even the head coach couldn’t stop. It was brutal. The memes crossed the line.
Fans troll Mark Andrews despite the HC’s safety net
John Harbaugh has been the Ravens’ head coach for 17 years. That’s been a long time. Being a veteran, he carries a broader perspective and provides some safety to the TE by saying, “We wouldn’t be here without Mark Andrews. Mark will handle this fantastically because he’s a high-character person, a tough person and a good person.” That speaks volumes about the franchise TD leader. But fans didn’t forgive Mark Andrews.

Ravens’ flock called him out, with some calling him a choker in the biggest game of the year. While some called for his trade to any other NFL franchise, many wanted him to talk to the media and share his perspective. However, some still felt that it was a bad day for the tight end. Destiny, as John Harbaugh mentioned, didn’t favor the veteran. It was sad.
For now, Ravens safety Ar’Darius Washington received a fine of $5,472 for Unnecessary Roughness (use of helmet). He got that punishment for his aggressive play at the 5:14 mark of the 3rd quarter in the wild-card game. He had 5 tackles in that game against the Steelers, which the Ravens won 28-14.
