A knee injury in week 4 against the Chargers abruptly ended the 2024 season for Rashee Rice. He was carted off the field after Kansas City Chiefs’s quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, mistakenly hit his teammate. Shortly after, the WR underwent a posterolateral corner surgery on his injured right knee. And the team announced he wasn’t coming back. But, wait!

In December, HC Andy Reid told the reporters why Rashee Rice isn’t returning in the postseason. But does that postseason reference by Reid include the Super Bowl? The high speculation of his return wasn’t up in the air until Rice made a major announcement.

On Monday, Rashee Rice shared a story on his official Instagram account. In this fresh update, he shared a photo of the Chiefs’s latest Super Bowl LIX jersey. Now this has created a buzz among his fans, who expect him to return in the final matchup of the 2024 season.

Patrick Mahomes’s Chiefs’ fresh jerseys will be white when they visit New Orleans on February 9. What’s more interesting here is – this new piece of fabric features an all-new Super Bowl 59 patch on the chest. The Chiefs usually wear red in home games, while they opt for white jerseys for the away games outside the Arrowhead Stadium. So, they wore white the last time they met the Eagles in the 2023 Super Bowl.

Hence, this time too, KC will don white. But Patrick Mahomes’s Chiefs giving the team’s Super Bowl jersey to Rashee Rice raises multiple questions in mind. With this move, does it mean they are updating the fans with Rice’s positive injury update?

Is Rashee Rice's Super Bowl jersey hinting at a miraculous return, or just wishful thinking?

Will Patrick Mahomes’s star WR Rashee Rice be playing at Super Bowl LIX?

Rashee Rice’s season took a brutal turn in Week 4. It started with a chaotic play, where Patrick Mahomes threw an interception. In the next minutes, Rice was seen going all out, chasing down Chargers cornerback Kristian Fulton to force a fumble. He made the play, but disaster struck. Mahomes accidentally crashed into Rice’s right knee, leaving him badly injured. The medical officials carted him off the field.

After waiting for the swelling to go down, Rashee Rice had surgery on October 7. There was good news that his ACL and meniscus were fine. But the bad news came that he tore his LCL and needed another procedure for his hamstring tendon. It was clear by then his season was over before he had the chance to fight for a comeback. However, still, hope flickered when Rice posted a rehab video, showing off single-leg squats.

But that hope was dashed into the ground, as former Chiefs lineman Mitchell Schwartz shut down those rumors. He sarcastically reminded everyone that squats don’t prepare a receiver for game-day hits. Then, on December 30, coach Andy Reid made it official that there is no postseason return for Rashee Rice. In fact, the team never opened its practice window before the January 19 deadline. So, this means, that even if he wanted to play, the rules wouldn’t allow it.

Now, as Patrick Mahomes’s Chiefs are on their 3-peat aim, it’s reported Rashee Rice can only watch the game from the sidelines. He is likely not coming back to play, and the jersey, well, the sideline players can also put it on.
