Is Davante Adams worth a 2nd-rounder and more, or are the Raiders asking too much?

The Raiders’ WR Davante Adams is not just looking for a trade away. The guy’s all about that SB ring life. And honestly, who could blame him at 31? I mean, let’s face it, Aaron Rodgers could use a reliable target now that he’s adjusting to new receiver chemistry over at Gang Green. But don’t count the Raiders out just yet! They’re not going to just roll over and let their star wideout go without a fight.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, “The Raiders have been seeking a 2nd-rounder and an additional pick in a trade for Davante Adams, per sources.” Might sound steep. But how often do you hear a premium veteran receiver’s up for trade?

See, the thing is, the Raiders are definitely eager to move on from the Davante Adams “sooner rather than later.” Why? Well, they’re ready to clear the air and shake off all that franchise drama. But don’t expect them to rush into just any deal. They want to offload his contract too, and at $88 million through 2026, that’s no small ask.

Yeah, it would have been a question of who’s willing to take on that hefty price tag?’ had it been anyone else, but let’s be honest—Davante Adams’ name alone will have teams queuing up. The guy has 96 career touchdowns! If a franchise is serious about winning, they’ll figure out a way to make room for him.

Rumor has it the Saints are leading the charge. A reunion with Derek Carr? Hell yeah! Sure, it’d be fun, but hey, don’t sleep on the Jets either! Aaron Rodgers would surely love to rekindle that Packers connection with Davante Adams. I mean, it’s the need of the hour for the Gang.

Why do the Jets and Aaron Rodgers need Davante Adams?

5 weeks into the 2024 season and it’s out in the open that the Jets’ offense is struggling. While it’s easy to point fingers at Aaron Rodgers, he’s not solely responsible. The run game? Pretty much non-existent. And even with Rodgers, the offense has been hit or miss. Dan Orlovsky even went so far as to say Rodgers and OC Nathaniel Hackett deserve most of the blame.

But here’s the real kicker—Orlovsky thinks the Jets need a guy like Davante Adams to fix things. Why? Because Adams is “better than the wide receivers available on the roster now.” He’s got a point, don’t you think?

Now, we’re not saying Adams is a magic cure for all the Jets’ woes. But imagine Rodgers throwing to someone he already knows, like the back of his hand. Plus, with Adams wanting out of Las Vegas pretty loudly, the stars have aligned for the Jets to go on and get him.

Maybe, Orlovsky’s right, the Jets need “diverse and exceptional players” if they want to compete with the Ravens, Chiefs, and Texans. A trade could help this shaky offense find its footing. But it’s not the end of the list of recurring problems.

Look, Davante Adams won’t fix Hackett’s questionable play-calling or the Jets’ O-line issues. But he would give Rodgers a reliable No. 1 target. That’s it. Never mind, it’s still a small W. Because let’s be honest—Allen Lazard isn’t cutting it with his league-worst drop rate.

Maybe, just maybe, Adams could give them a sense of hope, with the confidence they are lacking at the moment. But that’s a huge maybe depending on a lot of factors.
