Is Davante Adams' trade wish a sign of deeper issues within the Raiders organization?

Another week, another big check signed off by the Raiders for the want-away Davante Adams. Oof. How much longer can they endure this? And for what? He’s still got his eyes set on a trade. That’s rough!

But hey, the Raiders are trying to act like it’s business as usual. They even had him in the pre-Steelers hype video. Gotta make use of his face somehow, right? Especially when they’re shelling out nearly a million bucks per game ($983,333 to be exact) not to play. Makes sense… kinda?

Now, here’s the kicker—Adams has been sitting out since Week 3, and it sounds like he’s got one foot out the door. The sole reason? He does not want any piece of that quarterback room. And um, who would? Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell under the center. Yeah, that’s not the recipe for making it to the playoffs. And for Adams, the goal is the championship. So, the trade suits both the parties.

But hold on, the Raiders are itching to trade him too. And they want a second-round pick to boot. It’s a classic case of, “Hey, we’re not just letting our star walk away for nothing!” And let’s be honest, the Raiders are ready to shake off the drama and clear the air.

But all they want is to offload that hefty contract of his, which comes to a whopping $88 million through 2026. Yikes! They just do not want to pay him $983,333 every game for just being inactive. And it’s reasonable.

Who knew breaking up could be so complicated? But don’t fret. There are suitors. It’s just that some are playing the long game, like the Steelers.

Davante Adams to Pittsburgh?

It’s no longer a secret that the Steelers want a wide receiver. They have looked to increase the depth chart of their receiver corps for most of the season. And now, when there’s an opening to sign someone like Davante Adams, you’ve gotta wonder—what’s taking so long?

With four straight seasons of over 1,000 yards, Adams is like that cutout pro bowler you find hidden in a clearance bin. Why wouldn’t Pittsburgh jump at the chance? Fair question, but according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Steelers are keeping their eyes peeled as Adams’ situation unfolds, and it seems the longer this drags on, the more it favors them.

But here’s the kicker—Adams initially had his sights set on teams like the Saints and Jets, thanks to his connections with former QB Aaron Rodgers and Derek Carr. The Raiders might be playing hardball, claiming they could keep him for a while, but insider Adam Schefter suggests that could just be a smokescreen. You know, like that time your buddy claimed he could totally catch an AR12 arrow from back in the day—sure, buddy, we’ll believe it when we see it!

And let’s not kid ourselves. Adding Adams to the Steelers’ roster would be a heater. Can you imagine Adams teaming up with George Pickens? That would bring a whole new level of excitement to the offense. The potential is there—the implementation is a bit long way away from home.

While Adams to Pittsburgh seems like a real possibility, let’s not count our touchdowns before the play is made. But it’s like a ticking time bomb for Las Vegas. They are in no position to play the long game. The cards are not favoring them.
