Four… That number haunted the Falcons on game day, from their 4-point loss to the Chargers (17-13) to Kirk Cousins throwing four brutal INTs. Ouch. The veteran QB didn’t sugarcoat it, either. “It hurts when you feel like your defense played well and special teams made some big plays,” Cousins admitted. You could practically hear the frustration in his voice: How do I make sure this never happens again?

Head coach Raheem Morris wasn’t about to toss his QB under the bus, though. Sure, it was their third straight loss, and watching Cousins struggle was tough. But Morris didn’t come to the post-game podium breathing fire.

Instead, he stood firm, backing his guy. “That guy has carried us all season,” Morris said. “It’s hard to throw that guy under the bus. We’ll bounce back, bring him back, and we’ll be ready to go.”

For a team in the trenches of a mid-season slump, that kind of leadership matters. Cousins knows he messed up, and Morris knows they need him to bounce back. After all, there’s no playoff push without your quarterback finding his rhythm again.

Now, the season stuck at 6-6, with 5 games left, the upcoming run is crucial. The Falcons have hit their lowest (hoping it doesn’t get worse from here), so now it’s time to flap the wings hard to soar again. And for that, they’d need their #18 to find his groove.

Giving up on Kirk Cousins now is not an option…or the right time!

Let’s call it like it is (repeat after us): Kirk Cousins had a nightmare of a game against the Chargers. Now, what? The thing is, onto the next one. It’s like what Coach Raheem said, that they aren’t looking to pull the plug on Cousins. “I have no doubt in my mind he’s going to bounce back and be ready to go, especially against his former team,” Morris said.

So, what’s next for Cousins? The veteran QB, who was flirting with MVP talk earlier this season, seems to have misplaced his magic. Sure, he’s racked up over 3,000 passing yards and 17 touchdowns this year. But those 13 interceptions are the elephant in the room. Now, that’s where this thought must have popped into your head: Is it time for Michael Penix Jr.?

We know it has been long since he has been talked about (but he has been in the headlines a lot of late). But don’t worry, we’ll remind you. Um, the rookie Atlanta snagged with the eighth pick. Who’s been waiting patiently on the sidelines? Yeah, now you know…. Let’s pump the brakes for a second. Cousins hasn’t forgotten how to play football overnight. As Morris said, he’s carried the team earlier this year. Plus, Atlanta is still tied for the NFC South lead at 6-6.

A rookie quarterback baptism against Cousins’ old squad, the Vikings (who have been fighting anything and everything this season), probably isn’t the ideal way to start Penix’s NFL journey. Even if it wasn’t Minnesota. This is not the time to ask your young star to carry the charge to the postseason. No, sir.

But one thing’s on point: Atlanta can’t afford more games like this. Kirk Cousins under center needs to show why he’s still the guy. Run it back or pack your bags.
