The Denver Broncos are out of the playoffs conversation as of Sunday, even after winning against the Los Angeles Chargers. However, that’s not the point of concern for the team. The team and the QB1, Russell Wilson, are at a crossroads right now and will probably be parting ways by the end of this season. Wilson was promised about $37 million in injury guarantees, which he might not get by the time everything is over.

Aaron Rodgers sympathized with his situation and discussed it on “The Pat McAfee Show.” Rodgers favored Russell Wilson for standing up for himself and calling out the Denver Broncos for trying to change his contracts to their advantage.

The host started the conversation about the Broncos approaching Wilson to modify his contract and asked Rodgers for his take. Although much was discussed, a few things from the conversation stood out. The Jets’ QB sent his heart out to Russell Wilson for bringing this situation to light and calling the whole debacle “pretty scandalous” on the Broncos’ part.

“I definitely applaud him for speaking on it because, uh, it’s a tough situation, and you know, he basically said what he said, said what went down, which is pretty scandalous that they (Broncos) would do that.” Rodgers pointed out.

He addressed that the Denver Broncos tried to pursue their QB to move the dates so the injury clause would not kick in on the agreed time. Rodgers also pointed out that the Broncos threatened to bench Wilson if he did not defer the money and shift the injury dates. Notably, Wilson had a great season and put up numbers quite identical to players like Patrick Mahomes. But he still got the short end of the stick.

Russell Wilson surrendered his position to Jarrett Stidham, who led the Broncos to their victory. For now, there is just one more game left to play, and after that, Russell Wilson could be out of the Broncos’ roster.

It started getting worse by the minute for the ex-QB1 in October when he was threatened with being benched for the entirety of next season if he did not agree to the Broncos’ demand. Wilson kept it professional and gave his best to the Broncos. Despite this, things didn’t work out between him and the Broncos administration.

It is simple: if Russell Wilson stays healthy, the Broncos won’t have to pay him. If he stayed healthy, his $37 million injury guarantees would be fully realizable in 2025. If Wilson would have had an injury that didn’t heal by March 18, the team would have had no choice but to pay him.
