NFL fans remember him as the hero of the “Music City Miracle”. Tennessee Titans fans remember him as one of the greatest tight ends ever to have played on the team. In heartbreaking news on December 10, the world learned of the fact that Wycheck had tragically passed away at the age of 52. He died from a tragic fall at his home in Chattanooga. Wycheck is survived by his 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren. He is remembered for giving fans one of the greatest moments in the Titans’ history.

Frank Wycheck started off his career in the NFL when he was drafted by the Washington Commanders (then known as Washington Redskins), in 1993. After being released by the team, he found his new home in the Oilers. The Oilers morphed into the Titans and with them Wycheck rose to prominence within the team, and in the NFL world. Tributes from the NFL community poured in as they bemoaned the loss of the greatest players to have ever played in the league.

JPAFootball took to X to share the news that Frank Wycheck had fallen inside his home in Chattanooga and passed away as a result of hitting his head on the floor. Fans grieved over his untimely death and recalled fond memories from watching him play on the gridiron.

@SeanMBrotherton recalled that the seeds of his passion and love for the Titans were sowed in him when he saw Wycheck dominate the field. The user had also meticulously studied him when he played in school and ranked Wycheck as his favorite TE.

@Canefan73, another Titans fan, expressed his gratitude to Wycheck for his contribution to the Titans.

@jgwtn was present for the epic showdown during the AFC Wild Card game of 1999 between the Titans and the Buffalo Bills. It was in this game that Wycheck made the most legendary play in Titans’ history which went down in lore as the “Music City Miracle”.

There were just 16 seconds left on the clock, and the Bills were leading 15-16. Wycheck threw a lateral pass to Kevin Dyson who then rushed for 75  yards and scored a touchdown to seal the victory for the Titans. It was one of the greatest last-moment saves in the franchise’s history. He retired from football after the 2003 season.

But the TE will continue to contribute to the game he loved playing even after his death. @MLFootball posted that Frank’s family will be donating his brain for CTE research so that the game could be made safer for current and future players. Our heart goes out to the Wycheck family in this tough time.
