Can Patrick Mahomes stay focused on football with his grandfather's health in jeopardy?

“Randi believes that her humble, tight-knit town and her parents made her the woman she is today,” reads the bio section of Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes‘ mother Randi Mahomes’ website. Last year, Randi, Randi, who grew up in Troupe, a small town in East Texas, had lost her mother, Debbie Bates. While Randi and the Mahomes family are trying to bounce back from the loss, this year is also bringing its own set of challenges.

Sharing an update about her father’s health on X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, “Prayer warriors please pray for my daddy. He is in the hospital and is not well.. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 his name is Randy.

Randi, who’s also mother to Jackson Mahomes, 23, and Mia Randall, 13, and grandmother to Mahomes’ two children Sterling, 3, and Bronze, 2, with wife Brittany said she is close with her father. And her social media handles bear ample proof of that.

Last year in August 2023, Randi had posted a photo with her father on Instagram and joked, “Almost got daddy to smile!!! #family #myrock #mygirl #daddy #blessed.” In 2020, she shared a collage of photos of her father on the occasion of Father’s Day.

Showing her love, she aptly captioned it, “Happy Father’s Day dad!! I love you.” Fans also joined her in wishing Randy. While one fan commented, “School principal. Oh, the stories he must have 😊 Happy Father’s Day!,” another one chimed in and wrote, “Happy Father’s Day Coach!!! Seems like only yesterday we were walking the halls of our old high school❤️.” Her latest post with her father came in March.

The three-time Super Bowl MVP’s mother had a family reunion with her father during Easter. Randi’s post featured all three of her children, and two grandchildren posing with her dad as she wrote, “Priceless time with my family ❤️God is so Great.” Randi also harbored a strong bond with her mother and has revealed on many occasions how excited the latter has been with Mahomes’ accolades.

Before the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the 2024 Super Bowl, Randi paid her tribute to her late mother on Instagram. She wrote, “Momma i know you are cheering today from Heaven. I miss you every single day.. i can hear you yelling ‘Go Patrick.'” She had once again brought in her mother’s memory earlier this year when Partick made it to the Time 100 list.

“Momma would be so proud & calling everybody in her contacts. I’m proud of you,” Randi had written on that occasion. She also shared a memory of her mother right before Christmas last year. Randi posted a photo with her mom and Mia and wrote, “Last year around time I was with my momma in KC, she loved it there and was the proudest ❤️ she was determined to get the Marriott tree Chiefs colors ❤️🎄memories are what i treasure.”

All that being said, Randi keeps her family as her priority and seems to have instilled the same in Patrick. That was evident when she had made the shocking claim that MVP may leave football sooner than expected if the situation call for that.

In an episode of ‘The Mom Game Podcast’ in June, Randi had shed light on the QB’s mindset of balancing his family and the spotlight. And it surprised fans. The Grim Reaper is already on a record-breaking spree (a 3-peat of Super Bowls). However, Randi revealed, “I hear him, you know, make comments like, If the game takes away from my kids, I might not play as long as Tom Brady, and I’m like, I’m so proud of him for that.” In fact, not Randi alone, Patrick himself has spoken similarly in the past.

Mahomes, who many project to become the ‘Greatest of All Time’ (GOAT), has three championships over the last 7 years with Kansas City along with honors like the 2x league MVP and the league’s Offensive Player of the Year award. But, he is still far away from Brady’s seven Super Bowl rings, which the former New England Patriots QB won in his career spanning 23 years.

But Mahomes unequivocally said in the past that his family comes before his NFL career. “I’ve looked. If I played until Tom’s age, my daughter would be 19, 20 years old. That would mean missing plenty of youth sporting events and other commitments,” the signal caller had explained. While he had expressed the wish to have a long career, he had mentioned, “At the same time, I want to be there for my daughter. If I can do that, I’ll continue to play. But if I feel like it’s taking away from my family time, that’s when I’ll know it’s time to go.”

Notably, Randi also sets the example correctly before her children. In June Randi announced her retirement from her job as an event planner to play her role as a grandmother. She posted on June 27, “Tomorrow is my last day at the ‘Tree’ Hollytree. 19 1/2 years & TRULY on a roller coaster of emotions especially because Hollytree is my Family too. Could use prayers for this huge leap of faith. Focusing on my kids and being a ‘Grandi’ which i love more than anything.” She must be happy as her family is set to expand once again.

Randi is about to be a grandmother for a third time. Patrick and Brittany had announced a few months back that they were expecting a baby girl. After Brittany posted photos from the gender reveal, Randi had commented, “I can’t wait!! I love y’all and miss yall.” While the MVP has begun the season on a high note, stay tuned for more updates about his grandfather.
