In the second high-profile injury of the season, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins also tore his Achilles. With Aaron Rodgers already making it back to the practice squad and participating in a very limited capacity, is the time near when we will be able to see Cousins back on the gridiron as well?

Cousins joked about starting a “support group” along with Rodgers. As headlines have mostly spoken about Rodgers’ injury, Cousins has stayed on the sidelines for the most part. Without their starting QB, the Vikings were 3-3, while with him they were 4-4.

Senior NFL Insider, Adam Schefter, spoke to the Vikings QB regarding his recovery process. While 4x NFL MVP, Aaron Rodgers, had opted for the “speed bridge surgery,” Cousins had not. Since Rodgers has made a stunning recovery, he wondered if Cousins will be back before the Super Bowl as well. Cousins said that his wife had the same hope. Unfortunately for Vikings fans, they may not see him on the field so soon.

Cousins said that they needed to add 8 weeks, or 2 months, to Rodgers’ timeline, since he injured his Achilles 8 weeks later. By that logic, he cannot return until after the Super Bowl. “I said to my wife, cause she said, ‘you think you can play in the Super Bowl?’, I said well, if they made it to the Super Bowl without me, they’re probably not going to play me in that game if they got that far without me,” he joked.

In an earlier chat with Adam Schefter, the 35-year-old suggested forming a group that would help the two of them push each other towards a faster recovery.

Cousins wants to start a “support group” with Rodgers

While discussing his recovery process with Schefter, Cousins said that many sports personalities such as Tiger Woods and Steph Curry had also suffered the same injury, and maybe he should start a support group and also include A-listers such as Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and Russell Croww who had all also suffered the injury. The group was slated to be called Achilles Anonymous, he joked.

On being asked why he did not go for the miraculous “speed bridge surgery” that A-Rod had opted for, he said that with improvements in medical science, the recovery time for an Achilles tear is gradually becoming shorter and shorter. However, he did not want to opt for A-Rod’s method because he believed that the procedure he chose would help him make a stronger comeback and would be more beneficial for him in the long run.
