Caleb Williams is the NFL’s new flavor of the month! Bursting into the scene with a rocket arm, he’s already stirring up drama. The league’s old guard ain’t exactly thrilled. Some think of him as the next Russell Wilson, while others see him as a cocky rookie who needs to learn his place. What’s the real deal, though?

In a recent Twitter clip from the Dan Patrick Show, the Bears’ senior writer Kevin Fishbain weighed in on Williams’ criticism. So, a clip was played from The Carton Show where ex-Chiefs’ WR Amani Toomer threw a shade on the 19-year-old, questioning his rookie audacity. Toomer called Williams “Russell Wilson 2.0” for his bad attitude towards players in the locker room.

But sportswriter Fishbain just didn’t buy the hate. “If Caleb Williams became Russell Wilson 2.0, Bears fans would be thrilled. They’d have statues of him lining Lake Michigan,” he said, defending Chicago’s No. 1 draft pick. “There are so many stories about his career at USC that were polarizing. I don’t think he’s polarizing in Chicago and he definitely doesn’t seem polarizing in the locker room.”

Kevin Fishbain broke down how the whole Wilson-Williams drama kicked off. It all started when Bears’ safety Kevin Byard revealed in an interview that their QB told the locker room to clean up as stuff around was getting a ‘little sloppy.’ Byard, however, was actually praising Williams’ leadership, and Fishbain pointed out that the whole thing just got blown out of proportion. “When that story was told, it was Kevin Byard, who’s been in the league for a long time, and he meant it as a compliment that he was impressed. If Caleb plays well, he’s gonna earn a lot of respect, like Wilson himself.”

Look, Wilson was a baller. He was slinging touchdowns left and right. Last season alone (during the Commanders’ game), the Steelers’ QB threw for over 308 yards. Including a 50-yard Hail-Mary pass and three TDs. But let’s not forget, even he had growing pains. His first year in Denver with a 3-7 record? Rough. So, while it’s fun to compare young guns to legends, let’s give Williams a chance to write his own story. He’s got talent, no doubt, and the league’s expecting a lot from him.

Can Caleb Williams live up to the expectations?

Playing college football for the Oklahoma Sooners, Caleb Williams snagged the Heisman at USC—and his game had everyone flipping out with Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes vibes. The Bears have stacked their roster to set him up for success. Sure, there could be some rookie bumps along the way, but guys don’t count out a season as explosive as C.J. Stroud’s last year.

With stars like Keenan Allen, D.J. Moore, Cole Kmet, and DeAndre Swift, Williams is primed to hit the ground running. He signed his four-year rookie contract, worth $39.4 million fully guaranteed, on July 17. In 26 games at USC, the 22-year-old lit up the field with 8,170 yards, 72 touchdowns, and just 10 picks.

From his Heisman-winning days at USC to now donning the Bears’ blue, Caleb Williams is all set to make some serious noise. Chicago’s ready to shake things up with their new QB taking the reins.
