The Denver Broncos have had a rollercoaster of a season. After diving unimaginably deep into a troublesome situation, they are now rising higher and higher. From becoming one of the worst teams in recent years to moving towards marking the most surprising NFL comeback of all time, they have surely covered the distance.

But the genuine question is how did they do it? What could have possibly made the miracle happen that the other struggling teams are failing to replicate? Ahead of their Texans match-up on Sunday, HC Sean Payton gave an insight into it. Unsurprisingly, Russell Wilson has a part to play there!

In the pre-game press conference, a reporter asked a question to Payton, getting straight to the point, “Coach, you said at the beginning of the year the best teams are player-led teams. I guess have you seen that from this group… And how important is that?” While the success of the Broncos side speaks for itself, the reporter wanted a direct reply from the coach himself.

Payton, in reply, had the answer many would have expected but with the added insights. “Generally what I meant by that was, when you get going it’s their team, you know. We’re all a part of it but this season, you know, the players begin to hold each other accountable. They begin to play for each other.”

His answer indicated a formula to follow in leadership roles, allowing everyone to grow, “That’s one of the great traits that you see is when they don’t want to let each other down in their play and I think that’s a really good trait for any team to have.” He further added about insisting not only the leader but also each and everyone felt the urgency to improve and work as a unit.

It surely doesn’t need further explanation who the HC was pointing to when he replied to the “player-led teams” remark. It was the QB of the side, Russell Wilson, who is the heart and soul of the orange crush. But how much has he exactly helped the Broncos to recover from the depth of humiliation? We can put that into perspective, unconventionally.

Russell Wilson has been known as the Mr. Comeback for a long time. But his 2023 season might end up breaking all of the comeback stories he has crafted. The master of 4th quarter TD is true to his profession, and unsurprisingly he is the leader of that statistic in the year, having thrown for his 8th touchdown already.

Until now, the 2011-2012 Giants remain the statistically worst side to ever enter and win a Super Bowl. They were 9-7 through the regular season before turning on Super Saiyan mode in the playoff. After demolishing every team in the postseason, they handed a crazy 21-17 final defeat to Tom Brady‘s Patriots. The story of their run in that season almost remains mythical, and no team has ever come close to replicating it.

But it could get bettered, or, ironically ‘worsened’ this year by the Broncos. Wilson’s side started the season 1-5, and no Super Bowl-winning side to this date has come back from that far, not even the Giants. If the Broncos can stick to their epitome and grind it out, they might create the greatest Super Bowl turnaround ever. And charging forward with Russell Wilson, it’s probably more possible than not.
