In the latest QB power ranking by CBS, Patrick Mahomes is at the top, highlighting his dominance on the field. Brock Purdy was ranked second and praised for his impressive performances in NFC title games and the Super Bowl. Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, and CJ Stroud rounded out the top five whereas Lamar Jackson ranked 6th.

On Rich Eisen’s show, a fan expressed outrage over Lamar’s QB power ranking, calling it “blasphemous.” The caller on Rich Eisen’s show defends Jackson, citing his achievements and stats, and questioning why he’s ranked below other quarterbacks.

Lamar Jackson’s ranking left fans dissatisfied

The fan said, It is blasphemous how Lamar Jackson has gotten treated. I saw the CBS rankings that came out 6th behind Stroud and Burrow and Allen.” He also stated that Lamar is a two time MVP and has a winning record against Josh Allen and Joe Burrow, whereas they have none of these. He further added, “He has one peer, and it’s Patrick Mahomes. He’s led him to the first seat, what, 3453 yards in a row?”

Replying to the caller, Rich highlighted Joe Burrow’s accomplishments as a factor in quarterback rankings, contrasting them with Lamar Jackson’s postseason performance. He pointed out that Burrow has beaten Patrick Mahomes in a playoff game, made it to the Super Bowl, and had an opportunity to win it. He further stated, “Lamar hasn’t gotten past Mahomes in the playoffs, you know, and that. That’s part of the reason why he may have a lower power ranking.”

Despite this, Patrick’s rank before Lamar has upset fans, even though he has won several times against Jackson. Mahomes and Jackson have clashed on the field five times in the NFL, with Mahomes emerging victorious in four of those encounters. The Chiefs notably secured a win against the Ravens in the 2024 AFC Championship Game.

With all these qualms around the power rankings, it’s safe to say that fans are anticipating the two QBs facing each other on-field.

A much-anticipated rivalry: Mahomes vs the Ravens’ QB

Despite the kickoff being several months away, anticipation for the Mahomes-Jackson showdown is already sky high. A remark made by Jackson during the AFC Championship game adds an intriguing layer to the rivalry. Jackson said, “I don’t like competing against him (Mahomes) at all. I mean, he is a great quarterback. Definitely a Hall Of Famer. It is a no brainer. I believe it’s just two upcoming greats going toe to toe, like a heavyweight fight.” His candid statement highlights the mutual respect between the two quarterbacks.

The Mahomes-Jackson showdown has drawn the attention of fans and analysts alike. JJ Watt, weighing in on the matchup, said, “It is two phenomenal quarterbacks. He has that killer mentality. Lamar is playing at an unbelievable level. It’s going to be a really really good matchup and I am really really looking forward to it.”

Therefore, as the 2024 NFL season gears up to start, all eyes are on the rematch between the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs. This showdown, set for September 5 at Arrowhead Stadium, marks a crucial moment for both QBs and their teams.
