Like, what’s going on in Pittsburgh? Imagine them moving on from both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson after everything that has happened so far. And whom they are getting linked to as their replacements. Well, it’s another veteran who is already facing the twilight of his career. Matthew Stafford to the Steelers just doesn’t make any sense. Even if it does, and the Steelers do want to pursue this trade. There are two reasons, as pointed out by Pittsburgh reporter Mark Kaboly, why this trade won’t ever see the daylight.

First of all, Kaboly believes Stafford would like to have a lot of money. Then, he feels the Rams QB wants to belong at a place that can win now. As for the Steelers, they probably don’t have either of those to offer. See, they are already second-guessing whether to pay Wilson or Fields. And to go splash the cash on someone who has just turned 37 won’t be a wise move. Just look at the Rams—they have always believed Stafford is a year-on-year QB. Yes, he may have taken them to the NFL divisional round against all odds. Still, there’s no guarantee Stafford can be a long-term solution to the Steelers QB room.

And it’s not like they could get him, either. Rams are said to be looking for a first-round pick in order to trade Stafford, as per NFL insider Jordan Schultz. So, the Steelers giving up their first-round pick for a 37-year-old QB would be a bit amateurish, to say the least. And there’s also the winning part. Honestly, neither the Rams nor the Steelers offer Stafford a clear route to another Super Bowl. Yes, they possess enough firepower to make the playoffs every season.

But a Super Bowl could be a far-fetched dream for Stafford. Even if the Steelers don’t end up taking him or the Rams keep him. Stafford could actually find it hard to get another franchise anywhere near the Super Bowl. Because let’s be honest with ourselves here. Stafford is no Tom Brady, who can just walk into a new franchise after 40 and win a Lombardi. It’s something he probably dreams of, but it’s not realistic. There’s actually another franchise that is also actively interested in signing Stafford but may not end up doing so because of their neighbors.

Giants urged to learn from the Jets’ mistake in their pursuit of Matthew Stafford

Stafford is at that point where his age will always take a front seat no matter how well he performs. And with growing age comes diminished capabilities. Rings a bell, right? 41-year-old released after just 2 years in the Big Apple. Yes, Rams insider Erin Coscarelli uses the example of Aaron Rodgers to the Jets at 39 to warn the Giants from pursuing Stafford. “Let’s say the Giants trade for Matthew Stafford. Well, the Jets experiment didn’t work out very well. I’m not saying Aaron Rodgers is what Stafford is, but do I think the Giants are a Stafford away from a championship? No, not really…I don’t even know if Giants fans actually want that.”

See, the Giants have the No.3 overall pick this year. And using it on Stafford would be a franchise suicide, to be honest. Imagine not taking their chance with either Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward. And, of course, Travis Hunter, whom they are getting linked to regularly. Leaving all of them and getting a 37-year-old from LA would probably start a riot outside of MetLife.

What’s your perspective on:

Could trading for Stafford be the Steelers' biggest mistake since the Big Ben era?

Have an interesting take?

Seeing them try the Stafford experiment and fail would be too hilarious for the NFL. Like two New Yorkers making the same mistake in a gap of a few seasons is something no one could have predicted from a mile away.
