With Justin Fields signing a 2-year $40 million deal with the NY Jets, he is out of the reach for Mike Tomlin and the Steelers. This makes the Steelers QB situation even more complicated as they have also not extended owner Art Rooney’s favorite, Russell Wilson. However, an injury-prone Wilson may not be enough for the Steelers. It’s not that the Steelers have been quiet in this season. They ended up landing the Super Bowl winner Darius Slay on a 1-year contract and signed DK Metcalf on a 5-year blockbuster deal. But this does not solve their QB problem. Now, the word on the street is that Tomlin might be interested in a 10x Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl champion to sort out his offense problem.

We all know how the Jets-Aaron Rodgers partnership played out in the last two years. And when the Jets announced they were moving on from Rodgers after two poor seasons, it was not much of a shock. Well, the Jets may have had a poor run with Rodgers, but you can not deny that the 41-year-old actually had a decent season with 28 TDs and 11 INTs in 2024. You see, just a week back, Rodgers was not even one of the wildest possibilities to become a Steeler. But now, with Fields heading to New York, Tomlin has his eyes set on the veteran quarterback.

Now, while the Steelers are talking to Rodgers’ camp and may want him under center with Wilson, just two weeks back, Rodgers himself reached out to the Giants and made himself available. But now that Pittsburgh has initiated the talks, it makes more sense to join the Steelers instead of the Giants because of the playoff chances, per NBC Sports. And this might be the difference if the former Packer ends up signing for the Steelers.

Meanwhile, Adam Schefter of ESPN confirmed the Steelers-Rodgers talks just a day before we enter 2025 free agency. Aaron Rodgers has emerged as a quarterback option in Pittsburgh, per league sources. “Rodgers and the Steelers are expected to talk and explore a union. The idea of Rodgers playing for Mike Tomlin is in play,” Schefter said via X.

Well, at 41, Rodgers is not exactly in his prime, but let’s not act like he’s washed—he can still sling it. If the Steelers actually pull this off, it could be a major dub. But not everyone’s buying in. Some fans are all in on Rodgers, while others think this is just another short-term bandaid instead of a real solution.

Talking about the Rodgers-Steelers possibility, former NFL GM and current ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum feels it will make sense to him if Rodgers ends up in Pittsburgh. “I think this is a different Aaron Rodgers, who is feeling and seeing his football mortality. He will be 42 in December and like it is a marriage of convenience or him and Tomlin,” said Tannenbaum.

If this move becomes a reality, imagine pairing Rodgers with DK Metcalf whom Pittsburgh just snagged from the Seahawks. That’s some Madden franchise mode-level cooking. Metcalf’s speed and strength could be a nightmare for defenses, but only if the Steelers actually get a QB who can get him the ball. Right now, that’s still a big question mark because the QB chaos at the Steelers is real.

And bro, the fans? FUMING. The Slay signing was cool, but Steelers Nation is fed up with how the front office is fumbling the QB situation. Twitter (yeah, we’re still calling it that) is a war zone right now. Some people are begging for Rodgers, others are roasting Tomlin and the front office for not making a move sooner. It’s all bad. Real bad.

At the end of the day, Pittsburgh has to make a move ASAP. If they lock in Rodgers, it’s clear they’re going all-in to win now. If they pass on him, they better have an elite backup plan—because if this team walks into the season with no clear QB1? Oh, it’s gonna be ugly in Steelers Nation. Buckle up, because this is about to get real interesting.

Steelers fans are mad after the front office fumbles the bag on a QB

The Steelers had one job—lock in a QB1. Instead, they sat back and watched Justin Fields pack his bags for the Jets, leaving the fanbase in shambles. Now, with Justin Fields off the board and only mid options left, Steelers Nation is spiraling and letting the front office hear it.

Twitter is on fire. One fan went off, tweeting, “MF WE NEED A QB WAKE UP ‼️” before dragging the team for signing “Slay old ass” instead of locking in a quarterback. Another just hit ‘em with a brutal six-word reality check: “This is awful. Steelers fumbled this.” And the Fields stans? Heartbroken. One even apologized to him, saying, “We all wanted you. The Pittsburgh Steelers are a joke of a franchise.” Bruh, that one hurt.

And now? The Rodgers talk is making things worse. Some fans do not want him anywhere near the team, like one who said, “I do not want Aaron Rodgers psycho butt anywhere around the Steelers!” Others have already accepted their fate, with one tweeting, “I already knew Rodgers was coming.” The vibes? At an all-time low.

This whole thing is giving major déjà vu—same old Steelers, waiting too long, missing out on the best options, and getting stuck with whatever’s left. One fan kept it real: “That makes me sick, bruh.” And then there’s always that one person who just lets the anger fly: “I f-ing hate y’all bruh.” Yeah… Steelers Twitter is a war zone right now.

At this point, the front office needs to wake up and make a move ASAP. Whether that’s pulling off a Rodgers deal, drafting a young QB, or somehow making Wilson work, they gotta do something. Because right now? Steelers fans are fed up, and if they don’t fix this mess, this season is gonna be straight pain.
