The Steelers’ season went up in flames real quick—but what came next? An all-out eruption. The fans are now criticizing the team over a couple of debates. Oh no, this time, we aren’t gonna talk about their QB issues. It’s the head coach, Mike Tomlin, who’s making some hot headlines. I mean, Tomlin’s been leading the Steelers for almost two decades now, right? But here’s the thing—as long as he’s been running the show, that Super Bowl drought has stuck around.
The last time they won the Super Bowl was back in the 2008 season and since then? Zero Zip Nada. One of the reasons why the Steelers’ fans are not happy with Tomlin’s head coaching. And not just the fans, but Barstool Sports’, Kevin Adams. Not a long while back, Adams hit up his official ‘X’ handle and took a jab at the Steelers’ owner, Art Rooney II, and the head coach, Tomlin. And believe me, he chose one heck of a way for his demands.
See, Adams put his money on a billboard in Pittsburgh, sending a clear message to the owner. His demands? Well, read this, “The Standard Is Mediocrity. Trade Tomlin or sell the team, Rooney! We’ve had enough.” Yep, you read that right. Now hold that thought for a moment, or Adams’ demand, to be specific. The thing is, Adams is smart enough to know that no matter what he says, the Steelers aren’t gonna change. That’s why, he wants to make a public statement.

You don’t have to like me or the way I choose to celebrate the Steelers. But I’ll always stand on what I believe in, and I put my money where my mouth is. Will change happen because of this? No. But it won’t stop me from letting our voices be heard.

“You don’t have to like me or the way I choose to celebrate the Steelers,” he shared on social media. “But I’ll always stand on what I believe in, and I put my money where my mouth is. Will change happen because of this? No. But it won’t stop me from letting our voices be heard.” Honestly, can you blame him? I mean, under Tomlin’s leadership, Steel City hasn’t won a playoff game since 2017.
And this season? Well, at one point, it looked like the Steelers were surely fighting for their seventh Super Bowl title. Enter the last five weeks and boom, the Ravens knocked them out in the wild-card round as they recorded their 5th consecutive loss of the season. On top of that, the Steelers’ owner is supporting the head coach for the next season. Now, that just poured gasoline on the fire.
Rooney says Mike Tomlin is a good coach
The NFL has two types of teams—those that cycle through head coaches like a bad habit and those that stick with one guy for what feels like a lifetime. Now, you’d think a team keeping the same coach for years is either stacking Super Bowls or at least dominating conference championships, right? But the Steelers? Nah, that’s a whole different story. Tomlin has been running the show in the Steel City for 18 seasons, and in all that time, he’s got just one Super Bowl ring—and let’s be real, that was so long ago it might as well be in a history book.

What’s your perspective on:
Is Mike Tomlin's time up with the Steelers, or does he deserve another shot at glory?
Have an interesting take?
The kicker? Well, the owner believes that the Steelers are lucky enough to have Mike Tomlin as their head coach. “When you look at how many games Mike has won in this league, you don’t win that many games if you’re not a good coach,” Rooney said, via Brooke Pryor of ESPN. “And I know he’s frustrated like we all are in terms of not being able to take that next step, but we still feel good about him being the leader, and still think he has the strengths that he always had in terms of being able to lead a team.”

“The other side of the coin is when you look at the fact that we have six, seven, eight teams a year that turn their coaches over. When you have a good coach, you just try to keep building with them.” Of course, Mike Tomlin is a good coach. I mean, the guy has a regular season record of 183-107-2. Or maybe it’s just that his regular-season success does a good enough job of masking his shaky postseason record since 2016.

Speaking of which, the Steelers are maintaining their one-and-one postseason record. They’ve lost their sixth consecutive playoff game this season. Nah, scratch that. They haven’t even won a single playoff game since 2016. Now you tell me if Mike Tomlin is a good coach or not.
