Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals’s WR is facing a tough situation with the team. He is set to earn $21.8 million this season because the Bengals used the franchise tag on him in February. While this is a lot of money, Higgins hopes for a bigger, long-term contract. Many people believe he deserves it, given how well receivers are paid these days.

On ESPN’s NFL Live, analysts Adam Schefter, Dan Orlovsky, and Marcus Spears heatedly debated Higgins’ future. In the discussion, they talked about whether the Bengals would give him a better deal. Marcus Spears then compared Higgins and Jalen Ramsey, a star cornerback who faced a difficult time with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

As per Marcus Spears, “We’re trying to get into Tee Higgins’ mental makeup, right? Like we could draw on history. To your point, like Jalen Ramsey walked in the building every day and said something hurt, right? To get traded, right? So I get that. We understand where you’re coming from, but I’m not going to pretend to know Tee Higgins and how he’s approaching this. He’s probably pissed off, but the reality is this”

In April, Kelsey Conway from The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Higgins, a 2020 second-round pick, wanted a contract similar to the three-year, $70 million deal Michael Pittman Jr. got from the Indianapolis Colts. However, the Bengals haven’t offered anything close to that amount.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN also reported that the Bengals have “no plans” to trade Higgins. Higgins has said publicly that he expects to play for the Bengals this season. Despite his frustration, sitting out an entire year would cost him too much. He would lose not only the guaranteed $21.8 million but also his status and momentum as a top receiver.

Even QB Joe Burrow also spoke about Tee Higgins and his contract situation, giving a much needed player perspective on the situation.

Joe Burrow offers support to his WR

During a media session, Joe Burrow showcased his full support for Higgins and his other star teammate, Ja’Marr Chase, who is also negotiating his contract. Burrow said: “Those guys have their business they need to take care of. I support them in every way. Both those guys have earned everything that has come to them and more. I’ll support them all the way through it. Whatever they feel like is best for their career. That’s for them and their agents and their families to decide.”

He further stated that they are here to win football games, and he hopes that both of them stay with the team next year because their contribution to the team is huge. Joe Burrow is impressed by Higgins’ on-field performance. With 257 catches, 3,684 yards, and 24 touchdowns in his career so far, Tee has made a strong case for a long-term contract.

However, the Bengals are facing financial challenges with upcoming contracts for Burrow and Chase. This situation is making it difficult for them to meet Tee’s demands. Whether he stays with the Bengals or moves to another team, only time will tell.
