This one, for sure. I wanted to do two good ones to give us a chance to retire a Jet, win two Super Bowls.” Aaron Rodgers was pretty sure that he would lead his team to the much-awaited Super Bowl after 55 years in the 2024 season. But that didn’t happen. Anyway, to fulfill this goal in the next season, the New York Jets have started filling in the gaps for their future.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, “Former #Commanders DL Phidarian Mathis was claimed by the #Jets. A little DL depth moving forward.” Mathis is under contract through 2025, so he could potentially be part of the team’s future plans. But did you know he was a popular player on waivers?

Yes! As per Rapoport, “Phidarian Mathis was a popular player on waivers, as four teams total tried to claim him: #Jets, #Texans, #Bengals and #Lions.” But eventually, he landed with Aaron Rodgers’s team.

Mathis had a tough start to his NFL journey. Drafted in 2022 as a second-round pick, a knee injury cut short his rookie year after only one game. Despite the setback, he fought his way back over the next two seasons, appearing in 22 games. In that time, he made 25 tackles, defended a pass, and even recovered a fumble.

Hopefully, Mathis will strengthen the Jets’ defense, helping Aaron Rodgers and co. to march toward a better future. As per multiple sources, he is likely to appear with the new franchise in the final game of the regular season in January. Until then, the Jets need to sort some things inside the locker room.

Garrett Wilson voices frustration with Rodgers and team dynamics

It looks like things aren’t exactly smooth between A-Rod and Garrett Wilson. Their connection on the field has been under a cloud ever since a heated moment during training camp, where both were seen yelling at each other due to some unrevealed disagreements. Now, questions are swirling about whether they can truly find common ground.

However, Garrett Wilson, who had been holding back publicly, expressed his frustrations on December 29. He feels like Aaron Rodgers hasn’t given him enough chances. And that’s why he’s left wondering – what more can he do to make things work? But there’s a new twist. According to some sources, some teams monitored the friction between the two players. And it’s likely that the Panthers might approach the Jets for Wilson’s trade.

As per Ian Rapoport, “New York also received calls from teams interested in trading for Wilson after they acquired Davante Adams in October, and while they had no interest back then, a new GM might see him as a trade piece to help them acquire a new QB in the draft.” But when questioned about his future with the Jets, Wilson had said, “I love the Jets. At the end of the day, they were the ones that believed in me. I can’t be worrying about all that.” He is pretty confident that he would stay with Aaron Rodgers in the Gang Green.

This year, in 16 games, he had 97 receptions for 1053 yards and 7 touchdowns. But we can’t deny the fact that nobody has seen the future!
