Heading into the 2025 NFL season, the Denver Broncos is finding itself at a critical juncture! As Courtland Sutton‘s contract extension has become the talk of the town, it is in the hands of GM George Paton and HC Sean Payton to determine the team’s future. Amidst this, 2023 U.S. Open Champion Wyndham Clark, who is an avid Broncos fan, has made his intentions clear regarding the franchise in a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show.
On Feb 25, appearing on the Rich Eisen Show, Wyndham Clark confirmed his favorite NFL team, saying, “I’m a Denver Bronco fan. I’m a big-time Bronco fan.” Denver native Clark never fails to show his preference for Broncos fandom, often sporting orange and blue colors during championships.
On the Tuesday episode of the podcast, Clark also expressed his offseason wishlist. He remarked, “I expect to get a good tight end, a good wide receiver, another good D-end.” The PGA Tour golfer was pleased with the defense but also pointed out some gaps in the trenches. He shared his opinionated stance on certain players, particularly Michigan’s Colston Loveland, and Bo Nix.

Loveland, according to Clark, is a projected top TE prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft, adding, “That would be an outstanding choice for your Broncos.” And he has a reason for this too. With Loveland on the roster, Bo Nix can have the best security. “I like to protect Bo as much as possible and then give him one more big target,” he stated.
Even though golf is his forté, Clark knows a thing or two about the NFL. Particularly, Clark’s priority is the trenches. Running back doesn’t need as much attention as the offensive line. Moreover, he also talked about the team’s cap space advantage, remarking, “I love that we have a lot of cap space coming into 2025.” As Sutton’s contract negotiations are in talks, Sean Payton and the Broncos need to pay heed to Clark’s critical remarks this season.

The possibility of Sutton’s contract extension
In the NFL Combine media availability, GM George Paton once again made a reaffirmation regarding Sutton. He remarked, “Courtland is one of our guys. Team captain. I have said this for a couple of years in a row. We want him here.” While multiple teams have come forth to express their trade interest in Sutton, Denver is not willing to let him go.

He is of utmost importance to Payton and his team. As Sutton enters the final year of his four-year $60.8 million contract, he carries a $20.2 million cap hit this year. However, there is no guaranteed money left.

HC Sean Payton also emphasized Sutton’s role in the offense, adding, “We felt like he had a really good season. He is important to what we are doing.” He delivered 135 targets, 81 receptions, 1081 receiving yards, and 8 touchdowns. Given Denver’s solid 2025 cap space and the probability of Sutton’s extension, if the team further works on Clark’s vision for roster improvements, the Broncos can expect a major turnaround this season.
