The Las Vegas Raiders’ 2024 season didn’t just see them finish dead last in their AFC West with a 4-13 record. It also categorically pointed out their lack of a competent rushing attack. Dead last in team rushing yards (1,357), yards per carry (3.6), and tackles avoided on rushing plays (49). The Raiders’ ground game was simply non-existent. So, with Tom Brady calling the shots and a new regime of John Spytek and Pete Carroll in place. Las Vegas is expected to reform its whole rushing attack. And the only way to do so is obviously by drafting Boise State’s standout Ashton Jeanty. However, the Raiders are trying their best not to expose their plans ahead of the draft in Wisconsin.

Sitting at No.6, the Raiders are being constantly linked with Jeanty. Whether it’s mock drafts or analysts’ predictions, Jeanty has constantly seen himself sold to the Raiders. Take, for instance, John Spytek’s oldest son, Jack. He wants no one other than the 5-foot-8, 211-pound running back in Las Vegas. “My oldest son has made it no secret. If we do not pick Ashton Jeanty at six, that he is walking out of the family, and he is gonna find somebody else,” Spytek told Sirius XM NFL Radio.

Well, that viral quote even made its way to Jeanty. When asked about his thoughts on the Raiders’ interest in him, Jeanty said, “I’ve had some good conversations with them throughout the draft process.” So, with the Raiders constantly floating the idea of drafting Jeanty, an LA reporter once again asked Spytek about their stance on getting this year’s No.1 running back prospect. But before he could have answered the question, Pete Carroll sneaked in Spytek’s ear and whispered, “Be careful.” To be honest, this only further fuels the Raiders’ burning interest in Jeanty. Spytek may not have revealed their plans wholeheartedly, but he did use the example of Saquon Barkley’s impact in Philadelphia.

Spytek just hopes to find a special player like Barkley in the NFL draft whom they can build their team around. Well, Jeanty seems to have all those qualities of an explosive running back. He led college football last season in rushing yards (2,601), and tackles avoided on rushes (170). So, obviously, the numbers are too ground-breaking for the Raiders to even ignore Jeanty. Runners-up to the Heisman Trophy, a winner of the Maxwell Award (given to the best all-around player in the whole US). Jeanty’s resume comes with its own reputation.

But there could be a problem for those already dreaming about Jeanty arriving in Las Vegas. Jack, you wouldn’t wanna listen to this. Your father has apparently floated an idea about their No.6 pick that might excite 31 other NFL franchises.

John Spytek sends an open offer about their No.6 pick to 31 NFL franchises

No.6 may not get you the top prospect that can change your franchise’s fortunes instantly. Still, it can give you an opportunity to get the player you’ve been dreaming about. Considering that the player in question is still available after 5 teams chose not to draft him, then it can be your golden goose. With that thought in mind, Spytek wanted the NFL to know that they are listening to offers about their No. 6 pick. “Listen if somebody wants to come offer us something great, we’re going to consider everything too. And we certainly would be open to that.” But he also said, “My phone hasn’t rung yet.” So, there’s still time for someone to make an offer that Spytek can’t ignore.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Pete Carroll's 'be careful' warning a sign of hidden gems or potential pitfalls?

Have an interesting take?

Well, the Saints could be the ones who can ask the Raiders for their No.6 pick. After finding out about Derek Carr’s shoulder injury, the Saints have been pushed into the QB market. With a strong interest in drafting a QB, the Saints could trade up to No.6 if Shedeur Sanders remains available. The Saints are reportedly a possible destination for Sanders, whose draft stock has apparently hit rock bottom. Once the Browns or the Giants pass on Shedeur, the Saints could make this trade and capture Sanders at No.6 before anyone else gets to him.

However, it also depends on the package they offer to the Raiders. And it would only happen if the Raiders still feel that they can get Jeanty at No.9 while adding a little extra to their draft war chest (9 picks). So, only time will tell where Jeanty will end up. But there’s no doubt the Raiders aren’t going to leave any chance of drafting Jeanty if they can.
