The San Francisco 49ers are on a streak! Winning five straight playoff games is what they can boast of. It’s also an NFL record. Notably, two of those victories were against the Green Bay Packers in the 2012 round and the 2019 NFC Championship Game. Overall, the Packers have had more wins. They’re 38-33-1 against the Niners.
This is going to be nail biting from start to finish. And there are several matchups that you should be watching out for. One of them would be Kyle Shanahan vs Matt LaFleur. The two are actually colleagues from their time in Washington. But which HC’s team will win? We want to throw our weight behind the 49ers. And we’ll give you five reasons why.
1. They have 2 MVP race frontrunners

One MVP frontrunner was good enough. But two? That’s a testament to how great the team has been so far. The San Francisco 49ers got Brock Purdy for a bargain. Guess his resume? He leads the NFL in touchdown pass percentage, yards per attempt and the crown jewel – passer rating. He’s also set a franchise record in passing yards. But then they’ve also got Christian McCaffrey. He could very well become the first non-QB MVP in decades!
The 27-year-old is also a league leader in rushing yards at 1,177. His 17 TDs are just behind Raheem Mostert. With Purdy and McCaffrey on the gridiron, the Packers will have a hard time defeating them.
2. A consistent offense
Their offense is making waves! When it comes to passing yards, they are second in the league at 4,388. However, they excel in two aspects: touchdowns and overall rating. They have a whopping 32 touchdowns to boast of. And that’s tied for the first place with the Cowboys. But their offensive rating of 110.9? Now there’s no competition for that. They lead the league in that metric.
The Packers, on the other hand, only have a middling offense. Sure, they have Jordan Love, but his stats aren’t as great as that of Purdy.
3. San Francisco 49ers are at their peak
Some teams only do well against weak teams. But not the 49ers. Their only major hiccup came when they lost 19-33 to the Baltimore Ravens. But other than that? They’ve beaten the Eagles, who had made it to the Super Bowl last year. And they’ve made the Seattle Seahawks bite the dust… not just once, but twice!
That’s not all. 10 of their 12 victories actually game by a margin of double-digits.
4. Stifling defense
The Dolphins may be known just for their offense, but not the 49ers. They’re the entire package! We’ve already talked about their offense, but their defense is up there as well. Nick Bosa and Fred Warner feature in the top 10 Defensive Players of the Year prospects.
The Packers, on the other hand, are only beginning to pick up the pace. Their pressure rate is sixth in the league. What about sacks? They’re 16th when it comes to metric. But Purdy needs to be wary going forward. The interior defensive line has been bringing their A-game recently. Could they manage to shut down the 49ers’ elite offense?

5. Fred Warner’s increasing play
Yeah, his contribution deserves a pointer all for himself. Just like the 2 MVP frontrunners, he’s also been having a career season. His track record? 2.5 sacks, 11 pass deflections, 4 interceptions and 132 tackles!

Warner leads the league in terms of forced fumbles. And he was just named to the Pro Bowl. Jordan Love needs to especially watch out for him. Otherwise, he risks getting shut down. The 49ers will take on the Packers at Levi’s Stadium, California, at 8:15 p.m. ET on January 20.
