In response to gaining control of her music post-Scooter Braun’s catalog sale, Taylor Swift’s “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” drops, featuring five previously unreleased “From the Vault” tracks from 2014, including the fan-favorite “New Romantics.”

In the prologue, Swift addresses the sexualization of her female friendships during the original “1989” era, “I swore off dating and decided to focus only on myself, my music, my growth, and my female friendships,” emphasizing her decision to focus solely on self, music, growth, and female bonds.

She candidly reflects, “If I only hung out with my female friends, people couldn’t sensationalize or sexualize that, right? I would learn later on that people could and people would.” Swift firmly dispels longstanding rumors about her sexuality.

Swift clarified in a Sept. 2019 Vogue interview that her song “Me!” wasn’t a subtle LGBTQ+ announcement, debunking speculations.
