As the Halloween deadline to make trades has passed, some teams are left with great picks. On the other hand, some sacrificed their team members so that they could get to pick earlier in the NFL Draft 2024. It seems teams have already given up hope for this season and are already preparing for the next, even as there are 8 weeks more to go for the post-season.
So why are the trades which happen during the season so exciting? Well, a part of it is because Pat McAfee hype up their audiences. Another major reason is that it’s always fun to watch teams go on a fire sale as the deadline approaches. Fans eagerly wait to see how their teams will be revamped to correct the mistakes made in the season up until that point.

On The Pat McAfee Show, host McAfee said that he’s part of the problem. He said he and other talk shows like his are responsible for hyping up fans and audiences when the NFL Trade deadline approaches. But Michael Lombardi, who was an assistant to the coaching staff of the New England Patriots and had worked closely with Bill Belichick, was going to have none of it. He threw a spanner in his hype mechanics as he revealed the true nature of the deadlines and how teams play it smart.
“But we love trades! Everyone loves trades. It’s just hard to make trades. Because in the trade deadline people are trying to get something cheap,” Lombardi said. It’s mostly quiet for the entire year and then boom! The deadline is around the corner and teams try to squeeze players and get them for cheap. Players also fall into the urgency trap and make haste decisions as they are also eager to get picked and not have to wait for another year.
After discussing the trade scenario, Lombardi also defended his idol and former colleague, from unjust criticisms that he had been subjected to.

Michael Lombardi defends his mentor Bill Belichick
Bill Belichick has come under a lot of fire recently for watching the sad decline of the New England Patriots franchise. While critics argue that one of Bill’s many flaws has been his roster management issues, since he’s also the GM of the franchise, Lombardi thinks otherwise. He said that Bill gets much less credit than he deserves for forming the Patriots roster as it stands today.
Lombardi opined that while everyone says that the Pats need more wide receivers and a better quarterback, he believes that they need to reinforce their offensive line and that’s what got them defeated at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders. It seems that the “Patriot Way” is failing Bill Belichick. Will he see the writing on the wall and move on from the team, or will he continue to see the franchise’s end to its bitter end?
