There’s a saying “There’s no smoke without the fire”. And there is plenty of smoke in the saga of Malik Cunningham. A story of ups and downs, signing and relegating, and eventually a transfer. Now one ex-teammate of Cunningham’s has let the cat out of the bag.

The New England Patriots let go of their QB Malik Cunningham to be signed by the Baltimore Ravens. And now the OT for the Patriots, Trent Brown, has made a bold declaration. Is everything fine at the Patriots camp?

The year started with Cunningham being drafted by the Birmingham Stallions in the 2023 USFL Draft. He did not join the squad, instead going for the NFL 2023 Draft, where he went undrafted. Then was picked up by the Patriots, who then transferred him around from the active roster to the practice squad throughout the season. All this without seeing any game time with the main squad.

The saga culminated with Cunningham being signed by the Ravens. But the 30-year-old Brown’s Instagram caption tells a story behind the tribulations with Cunningham at the Patriots. Brown wrote, “Go flourish where your talent is respected”.

Brown’s statement has added fuel to the fire. With the Patriots poorly performing the entire season and then Cunningham’s ordeal, has Bill Belichick lost the locker room? Cunningham, on the other hand, has only positives to say about the HC and the franchise.

“I wanted to thank Mr Kraft and Coach Belichick for giving me the opportunity to play with the Patriots. I learned a lot from them”, Cunningham said to ESPN after his deal with the Ravens was finalized. Not only that, he also shared his desire to be like Belichick one day.

Cunningham said, “I want to be a coach one day, so I would take notes from Coach Belichick because he’s one of the greatest of all time”. The 25-year-old also went on to praise his teammates at the Patriots. He said, “I had great teammates in New England and built relationships that will last a lifetime”.
