Even if you have flipped a few pages of your calendar since the Patriots-Cowboys trade, that does not mean the debates about Joe Milton are over. In contrast, new updates are coming from former players and insiders, which are exposing how it was an ugly trade for the Patriots. And to add more fuel to the debates, the former Patriots star landed in a famous show to make the shocking revelation of the Milton trade.

The Patriots traded Drake Maye’s backup QB Joe Milton for the 5th-round pick to Jerry Jones‘s Cowboys. The way Patriots fans have reacted to the trade was insane. The level of anger was high. The Cowboys are on the much safer side in Milton’s case if he doesn’t play harder, as a QB’s average salary is $1,050,829, whereas the cap hit is also $960,000. In addition to that, there is another reason why every New England fan is criticizing the Patriots.

But before learning about that reason, it’s worth knowing how the Patriots exposed their former team’s failed tactics in the Joe Milton III trade. When Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk asked Devin McCourty about the Joe Milton trade and if the Patriots made any mistake to trade to the Dallas team, McCourty exposed everything.

Devin McCourty started, “I would assume yes. I mean, listen, the guy has a boatload of talent, and we saw some plays in that Buffalo game.” And also added, “When you see him in person physically just his statue and everything and then you watch him throw a ball you watch him run around a little bit you have to in the back of your mind say if everything starts clicking for this guy who’s a young player that like he could be really good he can be dangerous.” And then he exposed the trade, which did not work out.

But hold, Devin said more about that trade. “I think they wanted to keep him; they wanted to see what he can turn into, i.e, kind of how  Jimmy Garopppolo develops behind Brady gets an opportunity to play, and then you trade”, the 37-year-old star said. And added, “I think there was a little bit of maybe Josh McDaniels can get his hands and develop this guy and turn him into a prospect everybody wants but they they just couldn’t get to that that kind of standpoint.” Joe Milton played only one game in the previous season, which was on January 5 against the Bills.

And actually, this is another reason we were talking about. The performance Joe Milton showed in that game was fabulous. He completed 22 out of 29 passes with a completion rate of a staggering 75.9% and also landed one touchdown without throwing any interception. That’s why Devin McCourty was also saying that the trade was more on the Cowboys’ side.

What’s your perspective on:

Did the Patriots just hand the Cowboys a future star in Joe Milton for peanuts?

Have an interesting take?

But as we talking about the Cowboys benefitted from the trade, Devin McCourty has also revealed that it was not a coincidence. Let’s dive in to know more!

Devin McCourty’s shocking revelation on the Joe Milton trade

When Mike Florio asked McCourty what he thinks about the Joe Milton trade, he said, “I thought it was interesting because I did hear from a lot of people like last year Joe Milton always felt like he needed an opportunity to prove he was a starter like he never saw himself as a backup. Now I don’t know if that became more apparent as the off-season kind of came along.” He also added, “So, I thought they kind of saw it as hey we already brought in another backup quarterback.” That revealed a fact that Joe Milton himself wanted to get traded.

He has himself told reports how the Cowboys are like homecoming to him. He has always been a Cowboys fan. To elaborate, Milton’s exact words were, “My family grew up a Cowboys fan. Living in Texas has always been a longtime dream of mine.” Well, New England was also in a bit struggling phase for Milton. He had to compete with Josh Dobbs for the QB2 position, as there was no chance he could have competed with the Patriots’ star QB Drake Maye.
