It’s time for Mike Vrabel. After numerous discussions and deliberations, the New England Patriots have hired the former Titans coach as their head coach. Along with Vrabel, they unveiled their 2025 coaching staff, which includes names like Josh McDaniels and Terrell Williams. Things appear to be shaping up nicely for the Patriots, right? Well, it seems it’s only going to get better as former Pats offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien shared some news that is bound to excite Patriots fans.
During a recent podcast appearance, O’Brien mentioned that franchise legend Dante Scarnecchia would join the team in an advisory role. That’s some news, right? Sadly, though, it doesn’t seem to be true. Scarnecchia was asked about this and whether the news of his involvement with the Pats for the upcoming season was accurate. To the disappointment of all Pats fans, the Pats HOFer clearly stated on The Gregg Hill Show, “It’s not true.” That’s certainly a letdown.

Well, seems like it will all be on Vrabel and his coaching team. And well, to be honest, it is a good team. Doug Marrone was one name that especially excited fans as Robert Kraft’s team announced their coaching staff for this season. Marrone will be the Offensive Line coach for the Pats and is the 5th person to take up that position in as many years. And while Marrone has all the abilities to succeed in the role, the support of a veteran like Scarnecchia would have been a blessing.
Who is there in Mike Vrabel’s coaching staff?
It would have been amazing to see the veteran Scarnecchia advise the Pats’ offensive line. However, his absence should not raise major concerns, as Marrone has exceptional people working alongside him. Assisting him as the assistant offensive line coach will be former Titans offensive line coach Jason Houghtaling and former Panthers assistant OL Robert Kugler. Together, this trio possesses a wealth of experience and can work wonders for the Pats’ offense. The most interesting aspect will be observing how they collaborate as a team, and this is where Mike Vrabel will need to take the lead.

Vrabel truly believes in his coaching team and shared some thoughtful insights into the hiring process and his aspirations for the team. He explained, “The goal in filling out the 2025 Patriots staff was to identify trustworthy coaches who are diverse in background, ideas, experiences, and systems. We will be aligned in our vision to teach and develop our players with creativity, consistency, and an attention to detail with the major goal of developing relationships that stretch beyond the field and meeting rooms.”
The Pats have not had the best of time in recent years and with Mike Vrabel, they want to move in a new direction. Kraft and the team seem to have taken the right steps with their coaching team selection. Now it will be interesting to see what changes they make in the squad and how they shape up for the 2025 season.
