Can the Mekari brothers become the NFL's most iconic sibling duo?

Patrick Mekari’s family is a blissful chaos! Patrick Mekari is a fortunate man who grew up with his athletic sibling, Tony Jr. Mekari. Their love, strife, and competition helped Patrick achieve NFL glory. Just like him, his older brother Tony Jr. Mekari also played football for the California Golden Bears as a defensive tackle and nose guard.

The Baltimore Ravens OT, Patrick Mekari, also had the experience of playing on the same team as his elder brother at the University of California. It was truly a memorable moment and the ultimate tribute to the Mekari parents. Patrick’s family members cherished him and his beloved brother from the stands.

At Westlake High School in California, Patrick Mekari competed in six games as a freshman in his sophomore season. During his junior and senior seasons, he became a full-time starter at left tackle.

At Cal, the Mekari brothers rocked with their splendid chemistry on the field. Although they were on opposing sides of the trenches, they came together with the shared goal of building on Cal’s success in 2015. The Cal Bears recorded an impressive mark of 7-5, blossoming into a bowl game appearance for the first time since 2011. Interestingly, luck favored the Mekari brothers as Cal clinched a bowl game for the first time since 2008.

Not only that, the Mekari brothers and their Golden Bears teammates had amazing, fun competitions during practice. Patrick, a former 6-foot-4, 300-pound junior offensive lineman, expressed his feelings about playing with his elder brother. “Every time I’m inside, we’re going head-to-head. It’s a lot of fun. We push each other really hard, but we always want what is best for each other,” Patrick Mekari previously stated.

However, it was not only Ravens OT who enjoyed playing with his beloved brother. Tony Mekari, a former 6-foot-1, 295-pound Cal Bears senior defensive lineman, also shared similar thoughts about his brother. “Every now and then, he’ll come give me a cheap shot, and when they’re running the ball, I’ll give him a shot in the gut or something. It’s fun,” Tony remarked.

Earlier in 2016, Tony also spilled the beans on his feelings about squaring off against Patrick for the first time in practice. During the “board” drill, Tony was surprised when his younger brother, Patrick Mekari, defeated him. Following the practice, Tony expressed his feelings, admiring his brother’s play. “He beat me. The family still gives me a hard time about that. But he’s a good lineman. He’s strong, but he doesn’t lean. He knows how to use his weight,” Tony asserted.
