Long before the Chiefs Patrick Mahomes became a household name as one of the most electrifying quarterbacks of all time, the athlete was in a completely different trajectory. With the 28-year-old involved in other sports like basketball and even baseball. There was no doubt that he had a chance to make a career out of his interests. However, his mother, Randi, once shed some light on the athlete’s almost NBA career.
In a 2021 interview with Kent Hance, the momma bear ended up discussing Mahomes’ love for basketball. The host asked Randi if she remembered any special moments or things about her son’s hooping days. The 52-year-old stated, “I think he really really loved basketball,” before adding that it was something he had done his “entire life.” She also admitted that it was her “favorite sport” and proved where the athlete’s love for it came from.

The mom of three also claimed, “He knew he wasn’t built like NBA players,” which took basketball out of his career options. However, she also added that if Mahomes had focused on just one sport, instead of being a jack of all trades, “he would be playing basketball now.” While that might be true, the 28-year-old’s lack of commitment to just one sport helped him find his spot with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The world might be enamored by Mahomes’ slick moves out on the field now. However, recently, Mahomes’ ability to handle a basketball blew away a beloved NBA star.
Steph Curry reacts to Patrick Mahomes college basketball films
Just a few days ago, the NFL and NBA worlds got a crossover that no one saw coming. In a recent interview with ESPN, the interviewer showed the Warriors point guard, Steph Curry, clips of Patrick Mahomes hustling on the hardwood. However, the interviewer did not tell Curry that it was the Chiefs’ quarterback that he was reviewing. The 36-year-old watched the film and even complimented the 28-year-old’s “fluid” footwork before realizing who it was.

Once the interviewers told Curry that he was reviewing Mahomes, the athlete thought they were just joking. He even stated, “No, it’s not, no, it’s not.” After the initial shock faded, the father of four stated, “You would have no idea that’s Pat Mahomes right there.” After all, the 28-year-old seemed to look “pretty comfortable” out on the court. However, the NBA star joked, “The jumper needs more.”

Shortly after Curry shared his thoughts, the clip switched to Mahomes, who decided to jump onto the banter wagon. The Chiefs star wound up responding to the NBA athlete’s comments by saying, “I’m not gonna shoot like Steph,” after all, he was a professional basketball star. However, the 28-year-old defended his own plays by adding, “It goes in, it doesn’t always have to be pretty.”
The playful exchange between Curry and Mahomes proved that both the stars seemed to have a lot of respect for each other. However, that did not stop either of them from letting their humor shine through.
