With this visit at the Mercedes Benz Stadium, the Kansas City Chiefs managed to secure a hat trick of victories and snagged the top spot in the NFLs current standings. But this isn’t about the competition within the league. It’s about Patrick Mahomes reaching to a point where he’s leaving Tom Brady’s legacy in the rear-view mirror.
Some reporting in the past suggested that the 3x Super Bowl winner was ahead of the 7x Super Bowl winner in the first six seasons of his career. Well, hold your horses right there because there’s a new update on those stats. Check out what Fox Sports’ latest post on X said after the Chiefs 22-17 win against the Atlanta Falcons.
Patrick Mahomes just one-upped Tom Brady

FOX Sports took to X and noted, “Patrick Mahomes secures his 77th career win, surpassing Tom Brady and Roger Staubach for the most quarterback victories in their first 100 starts.” The Kansas City Chiefs are 3-0 after tonight’s win and Mahomes was an absolute baller tonight. He came out with 217 yards over 26 completed passes, while throwing two touchdowns and a pick.

But more on the game later. Let’s look at Brady and Mahomes’ stats in the first six years of their career. Mahomes is 72-22 to Brady’s 70-24 in the first six years of their regular seasons. The Kansas City Chiefs star (15-3) even led the Patriots legend (12-2) with more playoff wins during that time. If that still doesn’t convince you, the Chiefs QB also had 4 AFC titles by that time than Brady’s 3. However, both had 3 Super Bowl rings in the span of half a decade as starters.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Patrick Mahomes really surpass Tom Brady's legacy, or is it just wishful thinking?
Have an interesting take?
Here’s the real kicker, though. By the end of the first six seasons, Mahomes had a passer rating of 103.7 and Brady, 88.4. Actor/comedian Rob Riggle took to The Rich Eisen Show and pointed out: “See, all this GOAT talk stuff around Brady, obviously deserved, I got it. Patrick wants to separate himself from that, right, in my opinion.”
But while everyone is hyped about how Mahomes is surpassing Brady so quickly, the Chiefs quarterback cannot be bothered about comparisons. He knows Brady has 7 rings and it will take a long time to chase them. Before last season’s Super Bowl, Mahomes revealed an interesting take on what his future will be like.
“I mean, I’m not even close to halfway, so I haven’t put a lot of thought into it,” Mahomes told the media. “I mean, your goal is to be the best player that you can be. I know I’m blessed to be around a lot of great players around me. And so, right now, it’s doing whatever I can to beat a great 49ers team and try to get that third ring. And then if you ask me that question in 15 years, and I’ll see if I can get close to seven. But seven seems like a long ways away still.”
That statement is aging well, and we hope it stays that way. Especially after watching Mahomes ball out against Kirk Cousins.
The Chiefs receivers live and die by Patrick Mahomes
Mahomes found his reliable pal Rashee Rice for a 13-yard TD. It was the second quarter and Kirk Cousins had already hung 7 points on the Chiefs early on in the game. The 3x Super Bowl winner had to do something to put some points on the board. So, he threw a 13-yard dart to Rashee Rice, who ran the football to the end zone.
Let’s just say the Falcons’ blitz was not fast enough to stop him. It was third and three in the second quarter and Mahomes found an opportunity to equalize the game. The Chiefs were leading by a point when the third quarter came to an end. But Mahomes and JuJu Smith-Schuster came with another surprise with just 1:16 remaining in the third quarter.
That 13-yard pass to Smith-Schuster was awfully like the one that Mahomes threw to Rice. The TD was enough to give the Chiefs a comfortable lead. At this point, the Chiefs were 22-14. The Falcons gained 3 more points with a 54-yard field goal, but clearly, that wasn’t enough.

After the game, Rice spoke to a sideline reporter and his words paint the picture of just how much the Chiefs locker room backs their quarterback. This was Rashee Rice’s second 100-yard game of the season and he confessed, “Whatever that man wants me to do, I’mma make sure it happens.” The allegiance is a throwback to how Tom Brady’s teammates backed him up, even in the toughest times. It just shows the leadership skills and the rapport that both quarterbacks established in the locker room.
