Patrick Mahomes' Trump support—Does this change your view of him as an NFL star?

Patrick Mahomes is back in the spotlight, but this time for a low-key show of support for Donald Trump. The Chiefs’ superstar QB quietly expressed his gratitude that Trump survived a horrifying shooting on social media to his 6.7 million followers.

On June 13, Trump took fire at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The 78-year-old came out okay with just minor injuries—and was out of the hospital the same day, causing a huge stir. Everyone, from Barack Obama to Joe Biden, was relieved to see him make it through. Meanwhile, the Kansas City victory parade turned grim in Feb—when 33 people were injured and one person lost their life at Union Station in Missouri. Two adults faced murder charges and other serious offenses after what should’ve been a day of celebration for Chiefs fans.

Mahomes, usually in the spotlight for his game-winning plays, switched it up by hitting X to share a Rich Eisen tweet. The post gave props to the Secret Service and pushed for justice, giving a subtle shout-out to Trump amid the chaos. Just another cool move from the QB, who’s no stranger to being in the mix. “Thank you to the heroes of the Secret Service who threw themselves into what appeared to be a hail of bullets. Find whoever did this and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. None of this is OK. I’m praying for everyone there in Butler, PA,” he tweeted.

When Brittany Mahomes liked a Donald Trump post on IG, the internet went wild, faster than Mahomes’ no-look passes. Her casual nod to Trump’s 2024 platform—covering controversial issues like deportation and trans athletes—ignited a social media storm. Critics, including a swarm of Taylor Swift fans (who’d followed Brittany post-Swift and Travis Kelce’s romance), turned her notifications into a frenzy.

But Brittany didn’t play it safe. Instead, she went on the attack. In one of her IG stories, Mahomes’ wife fired back, “I mean, honestly, to be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep-rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood.” This bold response is a major departure from the Mahomes fam’s usual low-key handling of public heat.

On the flip side, Randi Mahomes’ been the legit epitome of calm under scrutiny, taking a more measured approach. The Chiefs’ QB himself has kept his distance from political debates, stressing in an April Time interview that he prefers fans to “use their voice” and make their own informed decisions without pushing a particular agenda. “I don’t want to pressure anyone to vote for a certain president,” the three-time Super Bowl champ asserted.

As Brittany stirs up the political pot, it might put her husband in a bit of a bind. For now, the Mahomes fam’s showing they can tackle off-field drama with the same skill and flair they bring to the field.
