Another week and another nerve-racking ending for the Kansas City Chiefs. While they keep on stacking up wins this season, their way of winning remains the same. Sunday Night’s victory over the Chargers meant the Chiefs have now won their 15th consecutive one-score game. Although it won’t look astonishing when you are reading the scores, anyone who watched the game could relate to how close it was. Hitting the left upright of the post and being declared winners!

Just when the Chiefs Kingdom thought they had seen it all, the Chiefs gave them a game for the ages. But it wouldn’t have been possible without their crown jewel, Patrick Mahomes, who led the team for a game-winning fourth-quarter drive. With only 4:45 minutes remaining on the clock, Mahomes brought out his inner clutch mentality. He helped the Chiefs convert three third downs, while the last one was Mahomes’ special.

Only 2 minutes remained in Kansas City, and the Chiefs needed to run down the clock on a third-and-7. So what did Mahomes do in that situation? Well, he sidestepped Chargers charging linebacker Daiyan Henley while finding his bestie Travis Kelce for a first down. His 9-yard pass helped the Chiefs set up their third-stringer kicker, Matthew Wright, for the game’s fourth field goal. Just when the Chiefs thought they had done it all, Wright’s effort boinked off the left upright and went in.

That moment when the Chiefs Kingdom saw Wright’s effort going wide must have led to them having a mini heart attack. But it also meant that the Chiefs, yet again, kept it close until the very end. So, it might have led to Mahomes sharing a clip where he is talking about not being able to win blowouts. Shared by his former Texas Tech teammate Keenon Ward, Mahomes was captured saying, “I told you I’m going to make it a good TV. Is this what I do? It’s just what I do. You have never seen me win a blowout. I will just keep it real close to the end.”

Real close, really, Mahomes? What about us, fans? We don’t have ice in our veins like you do this season. The Chiefs have now blocked a last-second kick against the Broncos. And then went on to win against the Raiders 19-17 thanks to a botched snap. All of those came against their divisional rivals, which kept them rooted at the top spot in the AFC West. But coming back to close games, even Andy Reid didn’t have the guts to watch Matthew Wright’s effort that confirmed the Chiefs victory on Sunday Night.

Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs win another nail-biter in astonishing fashion

When the team’s head coach isn’t able to watch them take the last shot at winning the contest, it means they are truly playing with the hearts of the Chiefs Kingdom. Chasing an unprecedented 3-peat, the Chiefs are just finding a way to win games by hook or crook. No matter what the situation is, the Chiefs spin it their way at the very last second. Sunday’s victory meant the Chiefs have now won 10 games where three different kickers converted game-winning field goals. But Matthew Wright’s effort was a little too much for Reid to handle, although he had full trust in his kicker: “I trusted Matthew, so I was good with where we were.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is Patrick Mahomes' clutch play a blessing or a curse for Chiefs fans' blood pressure?

Have an interesting take?

As for Wright, he wanted his field goal to be a little different than what actually went up in Kansas City: “It’s not good. I wanted it to go right down the middle, obviously, but I’m just happy it went it.” Even Reid wanted the same, as per an Instagram reel shared by the Chiefs’ official account. There, the 66-year-old was captured urging Wright to keep his effort a little right next time. We fans would even like the same to happen next week.

That’s because it’s all too much for us to handle every week. And if this goes on, who knows, maybe it will be too late for the Chiefs to win a blowout this season.
