The Kansas City Chiefs are just one win away from making history. Yes! We might be witnessing a historic 3-peat on Sunday, February 9 in New Orleans. And if this happens, as Patrick Mahomes quipped, he will “be the greatest Patrick Mahomes that I can be.” Even if he fails to do so, does his greatness decline? At the risk of stating the obvious, the answer to this is probably no. Why? It’s because the quarterback has already registered three Super Bowl wins in five years—a feat that arguably describes him as a great QB. However, he has a long way to go. That’s why, the 29-year-old’s father is giving him fatherly advice.

Patrick Mahomes’s father, Pat Mahomes Sr. appeared for a quick interview on Friday with TMZ. When asked what advice he would give to the quarterback heading into Sunday’s combat with the Philadelphia Eagles, the former MLB player said three words, “Players make plays.” Now, that’s definitely a powerful message, especially when the QB is attempting to make history. And we can’t deny the fact that this is a pressure-filled moment for Mahomes.

But for Patrick Mahomes it’s a common thing, right? Especially when he got an up-close look at his father playing in big games as a pro baseball pitcher. That’s the reason Mahomes Sr. believes, “There aren’t many events bigger than the World Series. That’s why I don’t think any moment now is ever too much for Patrick.” So, this Super Bowl LIX might also not be a pressure-filled matchup for Mahomes (though it certainly is for all).

Nevertheless, Patrick Mahomes’ dad is ready to see his son playing one of his biggest games in New Orleans against the Eagles. Therefore, the former pitcher added, “Well, it’s something that has never been done. So, with my son being a part of it, it’s a very exciting time for all of us here in the family…..I’m not treating it any different than any other game, man. He normally does a good job of locking in and being ready to play. And just hopefully he’ll come out there and have a great game on Sunday and hopefully we’ll get it done.”

So, if he gets it done, will Patrick Mahomes be referred to as the GOAT of the NFL?

We all know that Patrick Mahomes and his Chiefs are on a 3-peat mission. So, ahead of the Super Bowl, during the same interview, Patrick Mahomes Sr. was asked – “There’s people saying if he does this, it’s the greatest team of all time. And it’s also, because it’s in such a short time span, he could be named the new GOAT. Because give him 22 years, what could happen with that? How do you guys feel about that?” To which, the ex-MLB star gave a simple, yet powerful response.

Giving respect to Tom Brady’s career, Patrick Mahomes’s dad acknowledged, “Well, much respect to Tom Brady and everything. Patrick is still on his journey, hopefully he has a long way to go. And then once he’s done playing, we’ll see where it ends up at (in his career).” True! Tom Brady took 23 years to win seven Super Bowls and establish himself as the GOAT of the league. Mahomes is still in his eighth season, and four Super Bowls behind TB12.
