Following the Kansas City Chiefs‘ 27-17 victory over the New England Patriots, Patrick Mahomes took a proactive stance. He had addressed concerns about the infamous dropped passes among the team’s wide receivers. Despite Mahomes’ remarkable performance, throwing for 305 yards and two touchdowns against New England’s secondary, the issue of dropped passes surfaced.
One remarkable moment came in the fourth quarter when Mahomes bobbled a pass leading to his second interception, intercepted by linebacker Jahlani Tavai. After the game a lot of experts believed that Mahomes wouldn’t be trusting Toney anymore. However, the NFL analysts believe that the Chiefs should put their trust in Toney.

For Kadarius Toney, the matchup against the New England Patriots marked the second consecutive game marred by noticeable errors. In a crucial moment against the Buffalo Bills, Toney’s offside penalty nullified a potential go-ahead touchdown. The latest misstep unfolded during the Chiefs’ win over the Patriots, where Mahomes, visibly frustrated on the sideline, witnessed a perfectly thrown ball that slipped through Toney’s hands.
The receiver’s mishandling of the catch resulted in a tipped ball and, ultimately, a Patriots interception during the fourth quarter. Despite this setback, the NFL aficionados on ‘First Things First’ podcast listed out two reasons for the Chiefs to retain their trust in the WR. One of them said, “Listen they’re going to keep him involved, because for two reasons, he’s dynamic, the other is he did make arguably the biggest non-defensive play in win a Super Bowl and that wasn’t years ago, that was months ago.”
Now due to these two reasons, the analysts still want to believe in the skills of Kadarius Toney. However, one other Fox Sports NFL analyst has to say something contradictory to this.

Longtime Dallas Cowboys and FOX Sports color commentator Daryl Johnston offered a keen observation. Johnston, sharing his perspective with viewers, pointed out Mahomes’ visible expression after witnessing Toney’s mishandling of a perfect throw, turning a promising play into a missed opportunity. Johnston’s insight suggested a potential erosion of trust between the quarterback and receiver.
He said, “He’s not going to trust him anymore. It’s coming down to a critical situation and that’s where the ball has to go because he’s open, but “I don’t trust him, I’m losing trust.”‘ So, there are two different opinions on the same play, one analyst suggested the Chiefs to trust Toney, while the others were a bit skeptical after the last play.
