Travis Kelce‘s start in 2024 has been slow. He hasn’t done much in 3 victories till now. With 8 catches in 69 yards, he is yet to score a touchdown. Amid all these things, some analysts claimed that the Chiefs are looking beyond the 34-year-old tight end who is nearing the end of his career. But that’s not the case. His friend and teammate, Patrick Mahomes, has come out in TE’s support.

While talking about Kelce, the quarterback said, “He’s handling (the adversity) amazing. I feel like I want to get him the ball more whereas he’s like I just want to win, man. I’ll run these routes and take guys with me so that other guys can get open. We understand he’s an important part of this offense and we want to make sure we’re still featuring him.

The rumors of a dispute between the quarterback and the tight end arose when some fans claimed Mahomes was not passing the ball to him. Those fans pointed out that the MVP passed the ball to the newer WRs, such as Rashee Rice. But he had dismissed those then.

Patrick Mahomes had earlier said that rival NFL teams respect Travis Kelce and base their defense around him. According to the QB, since 2-3 players always stayed around the TE, it left other players much open, which gave them a better scoring chance. He reiterated those claims today. And their thinking is logical.

The TE also thinks in the same way. He agreed with his friend’s views.

Travis Kelce opens up on his performance woes

The TE recently said on the New Heights podcast that he is looking past the stats and will pick up the rhythm. Talking with his brother (Jason Kelce), the 3-time Super Bowl winner said that though he likes getting the ball, nothing matters more than a win.

Travis Kelce said, “I’m not worried about the catches and the yards and all of that. I have the most fun when the ball is thrown my way. Who doesn’t? But it has everything to do with execution and making sure we’re doing whatever we can to win these football games, man. That’s always going to be the goal.

Playing in his 12th season, he is a staple in the Chiefs‘ offense. There’s one more angle to this. Patrick Mahomes knows that the veteran’s experience is more useful to them in the playoffs than in the regular season. Also, the other members of offense are doing their job perfectly.

With such a boost, the tight end might return to the form anytime. He’s a key warrior in their quest for a 3-peat. Chiefdom, brace yourselves for such ploys.
