Patrick Mahomes and his ‘dad bod’ news have surrounded the Chiefs’ kingdom quite a few times this off-season. While it started off as a locker room joke, soon NFL fans did not hesitate to take it a little too far and exchanged comments like “bloated”, and “fat.” However, despite the criticism, the Kansas City Chiefs star took the opinions with a pinch of humor and an explanation that it gives him “the cushion need to take the hits.”

Nonetheless, despite the nonchalance from the QB’s side, he is determined to take care of his body. The evidence of this was provided when Mahomes took to a presser after the OTAs. Surprisingly, coffee is one of the things that’s helping the quarterback maintain his physique. But not just any coffee, it’s Mahomes’ Throne Coffee Brand, an idea he came up with alongside former Bodyarmor SuperDrink Exec.

The idea seems alien to many, but the quarterback is giving this maverick approach a chance. “I always do stuff that I believe in and the sports coffee thing happened really naturally where I love coffee, I drink it a lot, but I don’t like to put sugar in it. I don’t like to put all the added stuff in there so I want to find a healthier version so I can help my body not have that dad bod,” said the QB and added, “The biggest thing is just doing stuff that you really invest in. I did this from a very early part of it. I got to sample it and tried to give my tweaks.”

The 3x Super Bowl champ has tweaked the coffee to his taste and his health requirements. Currently, there are four flavors to it—the Mocha Java, the Salted Caramel, the French Vanilla, and the Black coffee. The facts about his new collaboration came to light when one of the reporters asked Mahomes about his offseason business ventures. The correspondent specifically asked the QB about his new coffee venture and Mahomes wasn’t shy to speak about it.

It’s hard to believe that people can get their weight down by drinking coffee, but the way Mahomes described the brew, it became evident how the beverage might help one maintain his body shape. For Mahomes, signing a deal with an ex-Bodyarmor marketing executive was a “no-brainer.”

The back-to-back Super Bowl winner recently launched the coffee brand with ex-Coca-Cola and Bodyarmor marketing executive Michael Fedele. Fedele is a veteran in the sports beverage niche and has worked with countless athletes to push a sports beverage into the hands of a consumer. But this venture is different for Patrick Mahomes. Why? Because he is a lead investor in the Throne Coffee Brand.

“I’m always looking at getting my body to be in the best shape possible,” said Mahomes in an interview. The main USP of this product is that it minimizes sugar and other additives to bring out that pure caffeinated flavor charged with B vitamins, electrolytes, amino acids, and natural caffeine. For Mahomes, focus on the field is important and sugar might keep him from staying focused as it causes “jitters.”

“You want to be locked in and be the best you can be, but you don’t want to have those jitters,” Mahomes said. As the OTAs are well underway, the QB is gearing up for the next season with a new arsenal, new collaborations, and most importantly, keeping a check on his health. Mahomes joked about having a 6 pack under his ‘dad bod’ and defended it by saying that he’s the father of two kids. Despite the backlash he suffered concerning this issue, there is no denying the fact that the QB has more than just proved how capable and powerful he is on the gridiron.
