Dynasties aren’t built on comfort. They’re forged in fire, in setbacks that don’t break a team but make it even more dangerous. The Kansas City Chiefs know this better than anyone. Three straight Super Bowls. Two Lombardi trophies. And then—one crushing defeat. But instead of licking their wounds, the Chiefs are treating their loss as fuel. Patrick Mahomes, the architect of their dominance, isn’t sulking.

He’s sharpening his game, diving into offseason training with a renewed sense of urgency. Because for Mahomes and his team, redemption isn’t an abstract idea—it’s a mission. And the first signs of that hunger are already emerging. The star QB is back to work with his longtime trainer, Bobby Stroupe. And now, as they prepare for the forthcoming NFL season, fans are thrilled with the positive update. Mahomes is focused on bouncing back, using the Super Bowl loss as the spark. He knows that they can play better, and is treating it with a sense of urgency, Mahomes is focused on improving. With this spirit, he is back to the grind.

And, the update comes from the Instagram handle of Patrick Mahomes’ trainer, Bobby Stroupe. He is the founder and president of the Athlete Performance Enhancement Center (APEC), working with Mahomes for the past 20 years since he was 9. Posting a small clip of Mahomes on his story, Stroupe captioned it, “Phase 1: Pattern stability.” In the clip, Mahomes maintains a straight line from head to heels, as he balances on one hand and the opposite foot. He is targeting core strength and stability in phase 1 of exercises.

In fact, Bobby Stroupe has an 8-layer “Cake System” for Mahomes to improve his performance. And it targets movement literacy, force absorption, force transmission, pattern stability, tissue resiliency, mobility, stability, and flexibility. Mahomes generally trains 4-5 days a week in the offseason. Stroupe also adds that his “dad bod” is intentional. He remarked that 14% body fat tends to aid durability instead of being focused on making him look like a model.

Mahomes immediately took responsibility after the Super Bowl loss on his X account, posting, “I let y’all down today. I’ll always continue to work and try and learn and be better for it. We will be back.” And, this is indeed fuelling him to work on a better prospect in the future. As he has already begun offseason training, he sends forth a clear message, that there’s no time for excuses. However, the update comes just a few days after Chiefs GM Brett Veach revealed that Travis Kelce battled a significant illness prior to the Super Bowl LIX.

Veach however did not clear the air regarding the exact nature of Kelce’s illness. Neither did he clarify the intensity of its impact. The news of Kelce’s illness comes amidst his potential retirement rumors. But, Veach is not ready for it. He remarked, “There’s been a lot of timelines and deadlines. Something that we as an organization haven’t discussed. We anticipate Travis being back.” Even Kelce shed some light on it during the New Heights podcast, saying, “I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back, it’s going to be a wholehearted decision. I’m not half-assing it. I’m fully here for them.”

Fans can expect a decision by March 14. Veach believes that Kelce is “fired up to continue playing” regardless of the Super Bowl loss. He reiterated, “Travis makes us better when he’s in our locker room and on the field,” while acknowledging his dynamics with Pat. And, despite the setbacks, with their chemistry and drive, Chiefs fans can indeed expect a strong rebound.
