Randi Mahomes stands with Angela Carini—Is this the support women in sports need more of?

What happened inside the boxing ring on August 1, 2024 at the Paris Olympics has shocked the entire world. It was a match which was never seen before. But was it really a sport, or it was an abuse to the female athletes? Nevertheless, as the world witnessed an Italian boxer crying over her fate, many started protesting – “Men shouldn’t be allowed to battle against a woman!

This gender controversy started when the Italian boxer Angela Carini, couldn’t hold back her tears when she had to stop her match against the Algerian boxer, Imane Khelif (who reportedly identified himself as “She”) just 46 seconds into the fight. This abrupt end, and a reported nose injury of Carini, has caused a big controversy at the Olympics, uniting many at one stance – “#IStandWithAngelaCarini.” Even in the NFL world, Patrick Mahomes’ mom, Randi Mahomes, too, took a stand for it.

A recent tweet posted on August 1 by a social media user, Jennifer, reads: “This is Angela Carini. We say HER name. This is the woman boxer who was failed by the world. She isn’t crying because she lost. Boxers don’t cry. She is crying due to the horrible unfairness of it all. I cry with her. #IStandWithAngelaCarini. Say it with me!!” As many social media users showed support to this tweet, Randi Mahomes too took to X and retweeted this post to show her support for Carini.

Although she didn’t say a word till now on the matter, her retweet was enough to tell that she too is fumed about the unfairness that happened in the boxing ring at the grand sports event. Not only that! She has also liked a couple of posts on the matter. Another post which displayed a big banner saying “Save Women’s Sports,” held by two females also caught the eyes of Randi. And wasting no time, she later retweeted the same.

Randi generally voices out her feelings whenever she feels the need. As this Olympics reportedly brought a controversial battle between a man and a woman, Randi made sure to stand with the Italian boxer. However, this isn’t the first time she has reacted to an arguably wrong decision made in the Olympics, earlier too, she weighed in on the cultural issues at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Have an interesting take?

Patrick Mahomes’ mother, Randi Mahomes has always been vocal about her faith, and she recently shared a tweet that resonated deeply with her beliefs. The tweet featured 16-year-old Brazilian skateboarder Rayssa Leal, who recently made headlines at the Paris Olympics. When the reporter approached her, Leal praised Jesus in sign language, which stirred a lot of emotions. This became a controversy because as per reports, the athletes are banned from expressing their faith.

This controversy came on the heels of an opening ceremony at the Olympics where organizers were accused of mocking Christianity with a parody of the Last Supper using drag queens – a claim they denied. Meanwhile, Leal, a devout Christian, smiled into the camera and used sign language to quote John 14:6: “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life.’ No one comes to the Father except through me.” And Kansas City Chiefs QB’s mom supported the same by retweeting the same post, which was originally tweeted by a social media user, Graham Allen.

Nevertheless, Randi, Leal and the stakeholder’s supporters are happy to witness the 16YOs’ Bronze medal win at the Olympics.
